Thoughts and suggestions :)

These are some boys names I’ve been liking lately, what do you think? [name]Do[/name] you think they would work on a boy/man born in the next few years?

[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Grover[/name]
[name]Harold[/name]
[name]Ike[/name]
[name]Ira[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Rex[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Van[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]

I’d love some suggestions too (including girls names if you have any ideas!).

Yes, I think most work really well but I love [name]Arthur[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Edgar[/name], [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name]!

[name]Ike[/name] seems too nicknamey, while I just dinosaur with [name]Rex[/name].

[name]Felix[/name] appears to be pretty trendy right now, so it could end up dated.

[name]Van[/name] isn’t a name to me, how about [name]Vaughn[/name]? [name]Grover[/name] sounds like a dog.

[name]Arthur[/name]- I can definitely see this aging well. As a little boy his nickname could be [name]Art[/name] or [name]Artie[/name]. And later in life just straight [name]Arthur[/name].

[name]August[/name]- Hmm, hard to see this on an older man. But the nickname [name]Gus[/name] or Auggie/[name]Aggie[/name] is pretty adorable.

[name]Edgar[/name]- Seems very stuffy to me. Hard to see this on a younger boy, maybe with the nickname [name]Ed[/name] or [name]Eddie[/name]? Personally, not my style.

[name]Ezra[/name]- Wow! This one is great! I love the soft ending and the way it rolls off the tongue. It can age very well.

[name]Felix[/name]- My nephew is named this! At first I was a little iffy about it but it’s safe to say I can see it on a man.

[name]Frederick[/name]- This one should age well. Not a big fan of the nickname [name]Fred[/name]…

[name]Grover[/name]- I’m sorry, but I think of a dog when I see this name :frowning:

[name]Harold[/name]- This one reminds me of [name]Fredrick[/name]. [name]Will[/name] age well and the nickname [name]Harry[/name] is also a name that ages well.

[name]Ike[/name]- It may be ready for a comeback! It’s a pretty interesting name.

[name]Ira[/name]- Reminds me of [name]Ezra[/name] with that soft “a” ending. I’m a big fan of those for the boys!

[name]Louis[/name]- I like it.

[name]Rex[/name]- Another dog name for me…But it’s in the same boat as [name]Ike[/name] and [name]Ira[/name] with three letters.

[name]Theodore[/name]- Yes! [name]Theo[/name]'s such a handsome nickname.

[name]Van[/name]- Interesting…Again in the same boat as [name]Rex[/name], [name]Ike[/name] and [name]Ira[/name]. Much more appealing than [name]Rex[/name].

[name]Walter[/name]- I only like this name for the nickname [name]Wally[/name]!

I don’t have any suggestions right now, but I would love to add some soon! Either way good luck! You have some amazing names on your list

I think you could use any of them… most of them are not really my style, but there are a few I like quite a bit.

these are my 3 faves:
[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]

and these are kind of nice:
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Ike[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Rex[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] - my son thinks this name is cool.

don’t really like these:
[name]Grover[/name] - I still associate it with the [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name] muppet, but I don’t think it’s unusable because of that.
[name]Harold[/name]
[name]Ira[/name]
[name]Van[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]

[name]Arthur[/name] -sounds like more of an old man name. But I can also see a baby [name]Arthur[/name].
[name]August[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this. Especially with the nn [name]Gus[/name].
[name]Edgar[/name]- Outdated.
[name]Ezra[/name]-[name]Love[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]-I like this
[name]Frederick[/name]-Again sounds like an old man name.
[name]Grover[/name]-Um no, just no.
[name]Harold[/name]-If he was mainly [name]Harry[/name] as a baby/child this would work. But I think [name]Harold[/name] sounds likemore of an old man name.
[name]Ike[/name]- Eh
[name]Ira[/name]-Eh
[name]Louis[/name]- This is nice
[name]Rex[/name]- Reminds me of T-rex
[name]Theodore[/name]- [name]Love[/name], especially with nn [name]Teddy[/name].
[name]Van[/name]- Ok
[name]Walter[/name]- Like if nn is [name]Wally[/name]

[name]Arthur[/name] - Really like this one. Very under-used, [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Art[/name], [name]Artie[/name], etc are great nn’s for both a child and an adult
[name]August[/name] - This makes me think of the un-athletic overweight kid in high school gym class. NMS
[name]Edgar[/name] - Too old-manish for me. Can’t imagine this on anyone except an old man.
[name]Ezra[/name] - Very nice. Modern but still a classic that will age well.
[name]Felix[/name] - NMS. Can’t see this aging well.
[name]Frederick[/name] - NMS, but it’s a good, solid name.
[name]Grover[/name] - Eh. Never been a fan of this one.
[name]Harold[/name] - NMS
[name]Ike[/name] - Nice. [name]Haven[/name]'t heard this in a long time.
[name]Ira[/name] - OK. Another one I haven’t heard in a while. Still a great name that will age very well as he grows.
[name]Louis[/name] - OK. NMS. It’s a good name, though.
[name]Rex[/name] - NMS. Maybe as a nn for [name]Reginald[/name] or something, but not on its own. (And please, don’t do [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Rex[/name] as a combo!)
[name]Theodore[/name] - Eh. [name]Kinda[/name] boring and overused.
[name]Van[/name] - Very modern. Like this one.
[name]Walter[/name] - NMS

Other suggestions:
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Orrin[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Clarence[/name]

Girls:
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Anne[/name]/a
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Celia[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Augusta[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]/[name]Molly[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]

Thank you for all the comments!! It’s great to get other perspectives on names!

lucystone thank you for your suggestions! I really like [name]Charles[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Julian[/name] for boys (funny that you suggested [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Julian[/name], I really like both names but cannot use them as I have sister [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Julia[/name]! I would maybe use them for middles if I had twin boys!)

From the girls I like, [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Celia[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name].

Thank you again!

I think they are all usable… my favourites are:

[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Ira[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]

[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Rex[/name]

These four are my favourites. I like their weight and dignity, without being too long or difficult. They all have a vaguely retro feel, but in a good way. I also really like [name]Ike[/name], but I do think of it as a nickname (every [name]Ike[/name] I’ve ever known has been an [name]Isaac[/name]). I would consider [name]Isaac[/name] pretty classic and a good match, sibset wise, with any of these. And I like [name]Ike[/name].

I hear author [name]Rex[/name] Stout rather than a dog name; but I would say it has a sort of relaxed gray flannel suit nickname effect, akin to [name]Ike[/name] and to other older style nickname-names like [name]Hal[/name], [name]Ned[/name], [name]Hank[/name], and [name]Ted[/name].

My recommendations would be: [name]Henry[/name] (NN [name]Hal[/name] or [name]Hank[/name]), [name]Edmund[/name] (NN [name]Ned[/name]), [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Hal[/name]/[name]Hale[/name], [name]Lewis[/name], [name]Callum[/name], [name]Nathan[/name]/[name]Nathaniel[/name].

Girls I think: [name]Iris[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Edith[/name], [name]Felicia[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Mae[/name], [name]Lillian[/name]. Similar feeling of retro without being too long or flowery. I could hear some nickname-names working too, like [name]Birdie[/name], [name]Roxy[/name], [name]Rae[/name] and [name]Josie[/name].
