I have come up with a tentative top ten of names - five for each gender. What are your thoughts on my list? [name]Do[/name] the names go with one another, do the name’s flow well? Any thoughts or comments you have would be greatly appreciated. Also, I’m not sure on the middle names, so if there are any you would switch around I would love to know
Boys:
Sorin Bodie Stevensgaard
[name]Valo[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Caspian[/name]
[name]Rohan[/name] [name]Casimir[/name] [name]Bruce[/name]
[name]Cabot[/name] [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Paul[/name]
[name]Alaric[/name] [name]Wiley[/name] [name]Zephyr[/name]
As for [name]Alaric[/name] [name]Wiley[/name] [name]Zephyr[/name]-- [name]Wiley[/name] and [name]Zephyr[/name] are both “softer” names. [name]Alaric[/name] is so strong and striking that the name seems to start strong and then… fade out. I would do [name]Alaric[/name] _____ [name]Wiley[/name]. Any candidates for ________ ?
[name]Dagney[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is great, but I don’t like ending with the rather fussy, over-sweet floral name [name]Lilac[/name]. Perhaps resurrect [name]Linden[/name]? “[name]Dagney[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Linden[/name]” is lovely.
[name]Thea[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Frances[/name] works very well and strikes the right notes.
[name]Sorcha[/name] [name]Elowen[/name] [name]Jill[/name] also flows well (though I would prefer Sunniva [name]Elowen[/name] [name]Jill[/name]-- Sunniva balances the delicate [name]Elowen[/name] and [name]Jill[/name] a bit better).
I do not care for [name]Ziva[/name] but more importantly, I do not feel it fits well with your other names well.
Hmm that’s a good point with [name]Alaric[/name]. [name]How[/name] does [name]Alaric[/name] [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Wiley[/name] sound? Or [name]Alaric[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name] [name]Wiley[/name]/[name]Alaric[/name] [name]Wiley[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]?
[name]Dagney[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Linden[/name] is lovely. I had considered it, but I wasn’t sure about the repeated sound E [name]LIZabeth[/name] [name]LINden[/name]. Maybe it’s just me.
I do like Sunniva, but I’m really worried about it being mispronounced. I have a name that is constantly said/spelled wrong, and it can be really frustrating.
I love the sound and meaning of [name]Ziva[/name], but I was unsure of how it fit. Any suggestions of what I could use to replace it?
I think either [name]Alaric[/name] [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Wiley[/name] or [name]Alaric[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name] [name]Wiley[/name] sound perfect. If [name]Peregrine[/name] or [name]Sullivan[/name] have special meaning for you, that would tip the balance. Personally I prefer the evocative nature of [name]Peregrine[/name] (conjures up medieval pilgrims, hawks, and Tolkien) to [name]Sullivan[/name].
I think [name]LIZ[/name] and [name]LIN[/name] are quite different in sound and the combo doesn’t strike me as repetitious.
[name]Amadea[/name] is very pretty, but quite soft. I would choose something with stronger sounds in the first slot there. Perhaps:
I really like [name]Ceridwen[/name], but I think [name]Ingrid[/name] goes best with the other names. [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Amadea[/name] [name]Susanne[/name]. I like that, thank you
Does anyone else have any comments/ thoughts?
I think [name]Alaric[/name] [name]Sullivan[/name] is nice. I can’t see it with [name]Wiley[/name], I’m sorry. As far as two middles go, I think I like [name]Cabot[/name] [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Paul[/name] better. [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Amadea[/name] [name]Susanne[/name] is nice, but I love [name]Thea[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Frances[/name].
Holy cow Saracita00! You put a lot of thought into this - thank you so much.
I like [name]Alaric[/name] Bodie [name]Peregrine[/name], but I think I like [name]Valo[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name] a bit better. [name]Alaric[/name] Bodie [name]Caspian[/name] maybe.
I think Sorin [name]Wiley[/name] Stevensgaard sounds really good. Sorin [name]Paul[/name] Stevensgaard is a no go as [name]Paul[/name] Stevensgaard is the name of a family member and I think it’s kind of strange to have his first and middle as my future son’s two middle names.
[name]Valo[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name] is perfect. I loved [name]Valo[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Caspian[/name], but [name]Peregrine[/name] just seems to fit better.
I like the name [name]Viggo[/name], but it reminds me too much of the actor [name]Viggo[/name] Mortensen. I really like [name]Ivo[/name] though. I’d never heard it before. Maybe [name]Ivo[/name] instead of [name]Alaric[/name]. [name]How[/name] is it pronounced? I want to sat Eye-vo like [name]Ivan[/name], but I guess it could be EE-vo too.
[name]Ivo[/name] [name]Caspian[/name] Bodie?
I like [name]Thea[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Jill[/name], but because my last name starts with an ell sound, I think [name]Sorcha[/name] [name]Elowen[/name] [name]Frances[/name] flows better than [name]Sorcha[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Elowen[/name]. This also leaves [name]Elowen[/name] out as a first name which is too bad as it’s one of my favourite names. As with [name]Emrys[/name], I have to leave it in the middle unfortunately.
I know [name]Lyra[/name] doesn’t exactly fit with my other names but it is my all time favourite girl’s name. I’ve loved it for ten years now and can’t imagine my first daughter with any other name.
I love the sound/meaning of [name]Ziva[/name], but I think it is too rhymey with [name]Thea[/name]. I agree [name]Ingrid[/name] is clunky - I have difficulty imagining [name]Ingrid[/name] and [name]Lyra[/name] as sisters, however I think [name]Dagney[/name] and [name]Lyra[/name] sound good together. But maybe that’s just me. Any suggestions for a fifth name?
Thank you so much for all of your suggestions! It is so nice to see other peoples thoughts on flow and such.
I do like [name]Lyra[/name], [name]Dagney[/name], [name]Thea[/name] and [name]Sorcha[/name] together. I like [name]Verity[/name], but I don’t know if I like it with my other names. Hmmm.
There are a few other girls’ names I’ve considered, but I’m not too sure if they fit:
[name]Malta[/name] - it’s been on and off my list for a few years now. I like it, but I don’t know if I can see a little girl with that name.
[name]Signe[/name] - since [name]Dagney[/name] is on my list I don’t think [name]Signe[/name] can be.
[name]Morwenna[/name] - it feels completely different than my other names, but I really do like it.
[name]Leta[/name] - this just feels too close to [name]Lyra[/name] to use.
[name]Paloma[/name] - I’m not sure if I like it enough, if that makes any sense.
I don’t really need five names for each gender, as I can’t really see myself with that many children, but the only names I know are set for my future children are Sorin and [name]Lyra[/name]. I would like to have names that I know fit well with those so that I have ones to choose from later on.
