[name_m]Odin[/name_m]:: name of the supreme Norse god of art, culture, wisdom and law. Old Norse mythology name. Very interesting name. Too close to [name_u]Aiden[/name_u]? Would he get nicknamed [name_m]Odie[/name_m]?

[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]:: “son of the sea” Welsh, love [name_m]Bob[/name_m] [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], love the meaning, don’t like the nickname “Dyl”, again too popular (#28), maybe for a middle name

[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]:: “all powerful ruler” [name_m]German[/name_m], can honor grandpa [name_m]Albert[/name_m], maybe nickname [name_u]Ari[/name_u]
[name_m]Penn[/name_m]:: “enclosure” English, probably only for a middle name, too weird since we lived in Pennsylvania before?
[name_m]Thorin[/name_m]:: “brave, daring one” Old Norse, like the strong sound and possibility of nickname [name_m]Thor[/name_m], too “The Hobbit?”
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]:: “dragon” (according to behindthename.com) English, strong sound, like it for a middle name
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]:: the name of a Sea, literary name. Like the connection to [name_f]Narnia[/name_f], probably only for a middle name

{Girls}

[name_f]Jane[/name_f]:: “God’s gracious gift” English, perfectly combines our moms’ names, is it too plain?
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]:: “white, fair” Scottish, could honor my grandma [name_f]Florence[/name_f], maybe nickname [name_u]Finn[/name_u] or [name_f]Fia[/name_f], has it shaken the Shrek connection?

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]:: “bearer of good news” Greek, very romantic name, comes with the lovely nickname “[name_f]Eva[/name_f]”, is this going to get super popular? [name_m]Longfellow[/name_m] poem

[name_f]Solana[/name_f]:: “sunshine” Spanish, so cheery, both of our moms have [name_f]Ann[/name_f] in her name so would honor them, I would use nickname [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]:: “heart, daughter of the sea” Latin/Celtic, love all the nickname options, my name starts with C- so don’t know if I want another C- name
[name_f]Zora[/name_f]:: “dawn” Serbo-Croatioan, pretty and simple name, may be too similar to our surname Zun0
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]:: “elm tree” Cornish, pretty sound, seems like I like -wen names, not a fan of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]… Is it inevitable?
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]:: “bright, shining one” Spanish, one of my all time favorite names for a long time, husby is not a big fan right now, my mom was almost named [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] and it has similarity to her name ([name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]), like the nickname Leny ([name_u]Laney[/name_u]), getting popular
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]:: “love, warmth, grace” Czech, has great nicknames, very pretty, might get really popular (one of the fastest rising names of the year)

[name_f]Carys[/name_f]:: “love” Welsh, another middle name choice, combines our dads’ names

[name_f]Raine[/name_f]:: “queen” middle name to honor my mom [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f], like the earthiness.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites:

[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]
[name_m]Oren[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Oz[/name_m]! [name_m]How[/name_m] cool that you have a Z surname.
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] - [name_f]My[/name_f] brother’s name. Yep, it’s popular, but it’s so quintessentially likable, too.
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u] - On my own short list! I don’t think it’s too close to [name_f]Keira[/name_f]; I know a (late teens) [name_m]Kiran[/name_m] who wears it great and I don’t think he’s encountered any name-related teasing.
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] the idea of [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u].
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]

Personally, I find [name_u]Owen[/name_u] too popular, but not [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] for some reason. Could be a regional thing. Since you like Irish spellings, maybe you’d like [name_m]Eoin[/name_m]? It’s always been my favorite [name_u]Owen[/name_u] spelling variation.

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] - If you find it too plain you can always stick it in the middle spot. It’s usually nice to have a 1-syllable name in double mn combos.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zora[/name_f] - Another one you can always tuck away in the middle, especially if you want multiple middles. ____ [name_f]Zora[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would be awesome.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] - One of my all-time favorites! I think it feels perfectly balanced. Cool that it has your dads’ names in it.
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]

I think using a C-name would be a nice connection to your name—not enough kids get named after their mothers, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Thanks @geeknamezyo! Yes I am lucky to have a Z surname, too bad it ends in -o which rules out a lot of my favorites ([name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Viggo[/name_m]…)

Thanks for all the very helpful feedback :slight_smile:

[name_f]My[/name_f] Favorites:
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u] (I don’t feel like it’s too girly. Definitley a boy’s name to me. I love that it’s familiar but unique)
[name_m]Leander[/name_m] (great meaning, and I love the sound of it)
[name_m]Evander[/name_m] (I love the full version, & nn [name_u]Van[/name_u]. A great boys name)
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m] (can’t believe this is so popular, although I do love it. I think it’s short enough to not need a nn)
[name_m]Drake[/name_m] (I agree, it would work as a middle for many, many names)

Honorable mentions:
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (I like it, too bad about the popularity).
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u] (I prefer [name_m]Kiernan[/name_m], which is farther from [name_f]Keira[/name_f], which your concerned with. Maybe that instead?)
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] (I don’t love the name as much as the meaning for you, but I could see it working)
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] (I like it as a nn, but no long names for this catch my eye)

[name_f]My[/name_f] Favorites:
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] (I don’t think there will be any pronounciation issues. I agree with you 100% it’s so sweet, but can age well)
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (I love nn [name_f]Eva[/name_f], love this long version. I don’t think this will be popular, but [name_f]Eva[/name_f] probably will)
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (I love this! It’ll be so unique on a child, and while it is close to [name_f]Lola[/name_f], they are polar opposite in style…does that help?)
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f] (was one of my favorite girls names for a long time. I still love it, although it sounds odd to me…I was used to just seeing it, lol. It does have a lovely meaning)
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] ([name_u]Love[/name_u] this & would also suggestion nn [name_f]Roz[/name_f]. I could see this working with [name_m]Evander[/name_m] in a sibset, for some reason)
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f] (This is beautiful & not used very often)
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] (one of my favorite girls names. It’s so beautiful)

Honorable mentions:
[name_f]Solana[/name_f] (I adore the nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u])
[name_f]Milena[/name_f] (While this is pretty, I see it getting very popular)
[name_f]Raine[/name_f] (I love the idea of this name, but can’t actually picture it )

Good luck! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped!

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are:

  • [name_m]Teague[/name_m] (However I prefer the spelling [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m])
  • [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] (There is nothing feminine about [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry)
  • [name_m]Evander[/name_m] (So glad to see someone else liking this name)
  • [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (One of my favourites. So handsome)
  • [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] & [name_m]Caius[/name_m] (Different but totally usable. Great names)

I also like [name_m]Ewan[/name_m], [name_m]Leander[/name_m], [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] (prefer the original spelling [name_m]Ciar[/name_m]án though) & [name_m]Alaric[/name_m].

  • [name_f]Elena[/name_f] (So beautiful but gaining popularity fast)
  • [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (Absolutely gorgeous!)

I also like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_f]Carys[/name_f].

[name_m]Favorite[/name_m] Boys:
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]
[name_m]Penn[/name_m]

[name_m]Favorite[/name_m] Girls:
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Elana[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]

I have so many of the same names on my list!
{Boys}
These are on my list so they are favorites:
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]: love it but technically it is off the list since my fiancé’s cousin used it for her daughter recently. I think it’s perfect for a boy.
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]: Currently in the top five in our list. Obviously we think it’s perfect for a boy.
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]: on my list but my man doesn’t like it.
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]: I don’t let popularity bother me because I love this one. It’s popular for a reason.
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]: another that’s on my list but not my man’s. I would use this in a heart beat. I like [name_u]Ari[/name_u] as a nn but [name_m]Al[/name_m] surprisingly is growing on me too. I had a grandpa [name_m]Al/name_m.
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]: We are discussing this also as an [name_u]Owen[/name_u] alt. I’m trying to love it as much since it is less popular.

Names I love but only make it to my long list and not the short.
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]: I love this but it closeness to “hey man” keeps me from loving it.
[name_m]Oren[/name_m]: [name_u]Ren[/name_u] is cute for a nn. [name_u]Love[/name_u] me some Footloose! Sorry [name_u]Ren[/name_u] always makes me think that. I also really like [name_m]Oz[/name_m] as a nn with this one.
[name_m]Torin[/name_m]: does it need a nn? Also nicknames sometimes figure themselves out without planning.
[name_m]Teague[/name_m]: like it but something always makes me hesitate to love it. Wish I could figure out what.
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]: honestly I love this name I just don’t think I’d have the guts to use it.
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]: already know a little [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and it’s fits him. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t think it’s too close to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f].
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]: love it for a middle.
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. I love [name_m]Ben[/name_m] as a nn. Again a friend already has a [name_m]Ben[/name_m] so it’s not on my list.
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]: like as a middle.

[name_m]Leander[/name_m], [name_m]Evander[/name_m], and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] are good names too just not my favorite.

[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]: I want to love this name but my problem is that it sounds too close to [name_f]Karen[/name_f] for my liking. Funny enough [name_f]Keira[/name_f] is in my top ten.

{Girls}

I love
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]: I also have the too plain problem. I think it makes a great middle though.
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]: love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] names. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is in my top ten!
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]: wish my man liked this one. I think it’s beautiful. I like short names if you can’t tell.
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]: I love [name_f]Delia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] as nn. I wouldn’t worry about your name beginning with a C.
[name_f]Zora[/name_f]: love this but I do think it doesn’t go with your last name. Sorry!
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]: I love this name. I like [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as a nn but those are popular. [name_f]My[/name_f] family used full names most of the time so I don’t see a problem with not using a nn. In my top 20.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]: another name in my top 20. I also worry about its popularity.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]: I would love to meet one! Has been in and out of my top 30.
[name_f]Liana[/name_f]: in my top 20. The only thing that keeps it from being higher on my list is that I worry about its closeness to [name_f]Leanne[/name_f] or [name_f]Leanna[/name_f] which are names I don’t like. I love all the nn potentials.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]: a new love of mine. I think it’s gorgeous. I wonder how high it will rise on my list!
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]: has been in and out of my top ten. I think it’s gorgeous and I wish I could have a two dozen girls bc I know one of them would be named [name_f]Carys[/name_f].

I like these.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]: don’t worry about Shrek.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]: I like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a nn but [name_f]Eva[/name_f] works too.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]: I can see why you are worried about it being to close to your dog. I have that problem too with some names and honestly it does stop me from having them be higher on my list.
[name_f]Solana[/name_f]: I’ve never heard this one but I like it and [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] as a nn.
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]: really pretty another one that I would love to see used on a little girl.
[name_f]Aylin[/name_f]: I was just contemplating this nsme the other day and my decision was that it sounded too trendy to go on my list. It is beautiful though.

I love that you added why you like/dislike these names. As much as I may love or loathe a particular name, the reasoning behind someone choosing a name can sway me either way. :slight_smile:

[name_m]Caius[/name_m]: really cute

[name_f]Jane[/name_f]: used to seem plain to me but it’s really starting to grow on me
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]: Yes thankfully I think the shreck connection is finally gone totally forgot it was in shreck actually really like this one
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]: I like most of the gwen names but this is one of my faves along with [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]: this ones growing on me a really awesome cartoon character had this name when I was little but I tend to think flora and fauna
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]: ya this one is getting popular but will always be one of my favs
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]: like this I don’t think there will any pronunciation issues
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]: this ones more popular on NB I think then in real life I think it’s still got a few years before it gets to popular
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]: cute but ya kind close to [name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f]: cute
[name_f]Solana[/name_f]: cute along with nn sunny
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]: as long as it’s just one more c name I don’t think anyone will notice , I love this name
[name_f]Zora[/name_f]: ya [name_f]Zora[/name_f] Zuno is a little close
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]: like this one hmm I’d say another nn possibility is [name_u]Wynn[/name_u]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]: cute Popularity not sure maybe a little since VD but I’ve never met anyone with the name
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]: really like this one

[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]: cute not a fan of the NNs though

[name_f]Aylin[/name_f]: cute
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]: cute

@katerinam : thanks for the insightful feedback! [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] & [name_m]Evander[/name_m] do make a sweet sibset :slight_smile:

@megan_janaya : thanks, i like [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m] but I would feel bad making my child have to constantly spell his name (which I think would be often living in the US). [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], it doesn’t get much love here lol.

@lavenderbelle : yes I am trying to love [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] as an alternative to [name_u]Owen[/name_u] too! I think Thys is all boy too but afraid of people asking “oh like [name_u]Reese[/name_u] Witherspoon?” and I agree, [name_f]Zora[/name_f] really doesn’t work with our last name. Thanks for such great and helpful comments!

@lillian85 : yes meaning and reasons for names are important to me! It does help to know someones reason for choosing a name to make you feel it!

@darcywillow : thanks for the helpful comments!

[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]:: I love [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], I think it is really cool.
[name_m]Oren[/name_m]:: Like the nn [name_m]Oz[/name_m], but nor so much [name_m]Oren[/name_m]. Have you considered [name_u]Orion[/name_u]?
[name_m]Torin[/name_m]:: I like [name_m]Torin[/name_m] for a boy, but people have told me it is feminine (which I don’t agree with). I think it is too short/nicknamey.
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]:: I prefer [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] on a boy! I only know girls named [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], but I think it totally works for a boy.
[name_m]Teague[/name_m]:: This one is cool. Pronunciation may be tough but I like it.
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]:: I prefer [name_u]Owen[/name_u].
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]:: Not a fan of word names, but I guess [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] is alright.
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]:: I love [name_m]Leander[/name_m]. I have a character with this name (so of course I think it is cool).
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]:: [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m] is growing on me. I think the pronunciation may be tough, but I still like it.
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]:: [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], but only on a boy. Not too feminine at all.
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]:: [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] is cool, not to close to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] at all.
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]:: [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Love[/name_u]. I prefer [name_m]Evander[/name_m] to [name_m]Leander[/name_m]. I think it is awesome, (I also have a character with this name, different stories)
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]:: I like [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. Short and sweet and still masculine
[name_m]Ozias[/name_m]:: I think this one is cool. I’ve never really thought about this name before, you’ve peaked my interest. I like.
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]:: I know quite a few Grifffins. Not really a fan.
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]:: [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] is cool. I really like it. I don’t know any Nolans (but I did see a bucket at the beach yesterday with [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] painted on it, I totally freaked out like the namenerd I am), so I don’t think it is too popular.
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]:: [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. [name_u]Owen[/name_u] was the first name I ever loved back when I was a kid. I don’t think it is too popular, I haven’t met may [name_m]Owens[/name_m], and I don’t think it sounds whiny. I have it as a GP (as you see in my siggy)
[name_m]Odin[/name_m]:: I’d keep this one has a MN. I think it is a bit short and I think it would be shortened to [name_m]Odie[/name_m].
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]:: I love [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. I wish it wasn’t so popular (I have it on my list too). [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m].
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]:: I met the cutest little boy named [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], and it made me like the name (I used to hate it). I don’t think it would be shorten to Dyl. Not my favorite from your list but it is nice.
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]:: [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] is cool. I don’t see the teasing potential. [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] comes from [name_f]Emma[/name_f] but you don’t see little boys getting picked on for that. Kids usually don’t make that connection. I think [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] is totally usable.
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]:: I love the sound of [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. I wouldn’t use a nn for it, but that’s just me
[name_m]Penn[/name_m]:: I like [name_m]Penn[/name_m], but it is too short. If you were living in Pennsylvania, I’d say its weird, but since you don’t live there anymore, it is fine. Good for a middle.
[name_m]Thorin[/name_m]:: I think [name_m]Thorin[/name_m] nn [name_m]Thor[/name_m] is awesome. I’m not too into LOTR and I don’t see any issue. And I think a boy would like that connection.
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]:: Sorry, not a fan. I guess it would make a cool middle though.
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]:: I like [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. Like your other names better, but [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is cool.
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]:: I think it is cool to honor both sides with one name. [name_m]Caius[/name_m] would be an awesome middle.

[name_f]Jane[/name_f]:: I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (as you see in my ever-changing siggy) I don’t think it is too plain. I think it stands out in the kre8tiv names of now. And I love the family connection.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]:: I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], but I think it has shaken its Shrek connection (since the movies came out like 20+ years ago)
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]:: I love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], but not [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]. Reminds me of [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] Paltrow (whom I’m not a huge fan of). I prefer [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f].
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]:: I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is awesome. It is kind of ‘sweet’ and frilly, but I think that is good on the right person.
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]:: Not really a fan of [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], but I like the meaning.
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]:: I like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] a lot. I don’t think there would be pronunciation issues/
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]:: I love [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. I think it will get a bit more popular, but it won’t be a top 50 name.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]:: I like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], but I like your other names better. I don’t think it is too close to [name_f]Lola[/name_f].
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f]:: I’m not a fan of [name_f]Farrah[/name_f], but it has a nice meaning.
[name_f]Solana[/name_f]:: I really like [name_f]Solana[/name_f]. I heard it on TV the other day and thought it was beautiful (and then went and looked it up like the namenerd I am).
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]:: I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I think it is super sweet. I think it is cool that you would share initials but that’s me.
[name_f]Zora[/name_f]:: I love [name_f]Zora[/name_f], it is simple and elegant, but not with your surname. Sounds too cartoony.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]:: I really like [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] would be intuitive, but I think you could control that “Her name is [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], not [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]:: Honestly, I’m not a fan of this name. I see the good things about it, but I’ve never liked it because my name is the Greek form of [name_f]Elena[/name_f]/[name_f]Helen[/name_f] ([name_f]Eleni[/name_f]). So I’m not a huge fan of my name or any of the [name_f]Helen[/name_f] family (except for [name_f]Helena[/name_f]). And I know a ton because [name_f]Elena[/name_f]/[name_f]Helen[/name_f]/[name_f]Eleni[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellen[/name_f] are really common Greek names.
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]:: I don’t think [name_f]Milena[/name_f] will get too popular. I think [name_f]Milena[/name_f] is cool, but I like your other names better.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]:: I’m not really a fan of any names in the [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] family (except for [name_f]Margo[/name_f])
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]:: I like [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]. It seems fresh among all the kre8tiv names now. I like your other names bettter though.
[name_f]Liana[/name_f]:: I think [name_f]Liana[/name_f] is really pretty. I’ve never really thought about it until now, but I like the sound of it.
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]:: I like [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], it is sophisticated and mature. love the nn [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. I do prefer [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f], but [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] is awesome.
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]:: [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] does have an awesome, peaceful sound to it. I hope the DH likes it!
[name_f]Marni[/name_f]:: I like the meaning, but I think it is too nicknamey.
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]:: I like [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]. I wouldn’t use a nn for it, and I don’t thin [name_f]Gen[/name_f] is intuitive (not like [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f])
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]:: I love [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]. I love the sound!
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]:: I like [name_f]Carys[/name_f] and love the family connection.
[name_f]Aylin[/name_f]:: I love the meaning of [name_f]Aylin[/name_f]. I love the sound. But I too worry that it sounds a bit trendy. Maybe as a middle?
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]:: I like this as a middle. It would be a cool way to honor your mom.

Okay, that was rough. That took me almost half an hour, but I had fun doing it. If you are ever in the mood to give thoughts on a long list like this, PM me (I believe my list would be longer). I love how you listed all the meanings, meanings are the best part of the name (they’re what make the names special!). Good luck on your name hunt!

[name_f]My[/name_f] faves for Boys:
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u] (has always been one of my all-time favorite names)
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]

[name_f]My[/name_f] faves for Girls:

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] (prefer it spelt [name_f]Jayne[/name_f])
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] ([name_u]Love[/name_u] this name!)
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f] (one of my all-time favorites)
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]

@hardertobreathe : thanks for taking the time to comment on all my names, its a long list I know! I love reading your thoughts though :slight_smile:

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]: I don’t think it’s too girly. I think [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] probably started out as a boys name anyway.
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]: I pronounce it Ef-frem but people might pronounce it Eff-raime.
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]: I love [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and I don’t think its feminine because that would be spelled reece. [name_u]Ever[/name_u] heard of [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] Meyers?
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]: Not even close to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] in my mind
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]: I don’t think its too popular
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]: It is pretty popular but it doesn’t sound whiny to me at all.
[name_m]Odin[/name_m]: I don’t think its that close to [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] and I like the nickname [name_m]Odie[/name_m].
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]
[name_m]Penn[/name_m]:I don’t think its weird considering you lived in Pennsylvania before. However, other people might draw the conclusion that you named him after Pennsylvania.
[name_m]Thorin[/name_m]: I like it but my first thought was The Hobbit.
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]

{Girls}

[name_f]Jane[/name_f]: Some might consider it to be too plain because of “Plain [name_f]Jane[/name_f],” but I love it! Could also be a great MN.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]: I like it but most kids her age would connect it with Shrek because the movies are still new.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]:Cute but maybe too sweet. Could be a MN.
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]:I think its a common enough name so there won’t be pronunciation issues.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]:I could see it becoming very popular
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]: [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] will probably be inevitable when she gets to school and her friends give her a NN
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite boys are:
[name_m]Evander[/name_m] – Though I admit I much prefer [name_u]Evan[/name_u].
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m] – I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this as of late. I don’t think it’s too popular
[name_u]Owen[/name_u] – Not too whiney or popular.

I also like [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. I only dislike [name_m]Oren[/name_m], [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m], and [name_m]Ozias[/name_m]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite girl is [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] – Yes! the Shrek connection is not a problem. I’d love the nn [name_u]Fee[/name_u]

I also like [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_f]Liana[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]. I’m not a fan personally but [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is not boring at all. I only dislike [name_f]Solana[/name_f], [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], and [name_f]Marni[/name_f].

[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]:: I love that it is honorific, and it is a lovely name.
[name_m]Oren[/name_m]:: NMS, but a nice enough name.
[name_m]Torin[/name_m]:: NMS, and all I hear is ‘tore in’, as in ‘tore in two’. NB recommends [name_m]Tor[/name_m], maybe you could use that as a nn?
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]:: NMS, but spunky and strong. I think it is fine for either gender.
[name_m]Teague[/name_m]:: NMS, but friendly and jaunty.
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]:: I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Ewan[/name_m]: smart, strong, handsome, gentle. Utterly lovely.
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]:: I utterly adore [name_m]Forrest[/name_m]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] love love.
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]:: I like the personal meaning to you. NMS, but a beautiful name. Isn’t it related to oleander’s as well?
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]:: I don’t think pronunciation will be a problem. It is a lovely name that deserves wider use.
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]:: Not too feminine- I think it is fine. NMS, but a fine name.
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]:: I don’t see the [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] connection at all. At all. It is a lovely name- I think it is fine.
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]:: NMS, but a good name, and [name_u]Van[/name_u] is wonderful.
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]:: NMS (I always think of an aggressive little kid), but a fine name.
[name_m]Ozias[/name_m]:: I really really like this.
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]:: I love this.
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]:: NMS, but a lovely name. I’ve never heard of a [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], but I am in Australia. Maybe you could use [name_u]Noel[/name_u] or [name_m]Nole[/name_m] for a nn?
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]:: NMS, but a lovely name. I don’t think it is whiney.
[name_m]Odin[/name_m]:: He might get nn [name_m]Odie[/name_m], but it wouldn’t be hard to stop that. I don’t think it is too close to [name_u]Aidan[/name_u], but you will still get a few people think that it is [name_u]Aidan[/name_u].
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]:: I think [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is lovely. I wouldn’t personally use it, and I agree that it is very very popular.
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]:: All the [name_u]Dylan[/name_u]'s I’ve known have never had a nn, and most people are aware that Dill is a silly nn with a bad meaning.
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]:: I don’t think it has teasing potential at all. I’ve known half a dozen [name_u]Kieran[/name_u]'s, and they have all been fine.
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]:: NMS, but I like the honorific and it is a perfectly fine name.
[name_m]Penn[/name_m]:: I love [name_m]Penn[/name_m] too. I don’t think it is odd if you have lived in Pennsylvania, only if you still live there.
[name_m]Thorin[/name_m]:: I don’t think it is too the Hobbit, due to its similarity to names like [name_m]Thor[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m], etc… Anyone that would get that it was from the Hobbit would probably be a huge Hobbit buff and really appreciate it.
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]:: NMS, (I think of rake or snake) but a perfectly fine name.
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]:: [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] lovely choice.
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]:: Beautiful name, and the honorific is lovely.

{Girls}

[name_f]Jane[/name_f]:: I don’t think it is too plain, and the honorific is lovely.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]:: I don’t think it is immediately tied to Shrek, and anyone with that association will remember that she was a pretty good character: a kick butt princess.
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]:: NMS, but lovely name.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]:: I don’t think it is too sweet: I picture a little [name_f]Flora[/name_f] as having a lot of spunk and sass.
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]:: NMS, but a lovely name. I don’t think it needs a nn, but I have known a [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] who went by Nom. Mi or [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] is another option.
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]:: I think the pronunciation is incredibly obvious. A lovely choice.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]:: It may rise, but I don’t think it will be mega popular. A beautiful choice.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]:: It might be a bit close to [name_f]Lola[/name_f].
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f]::[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name- soft and beautiful.
[name_f]Solana[/name_f]:: NMS, but I like the personal meaning and the nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u].
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]:: I think it is beautiful. I wouldn’t worry about having two ‘c’ names in the family.
[name_f]Zora[/name_f]:: Might be a bit similar to your last name, depending how you look at it, but it would sound great with it.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]:: [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is a plausible nn, but you could always encourage just [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], Wen, Lowen, [name_f]Lolly[/name_f], Ello, etc.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]:: NMS, but a lovely name.
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]:: I think it will continue to rise à la [name_f]Mila[/name_f] / [name_f]Milla[/name_f] / [name_m]Miles[/name_m] / [name_m]Miller[/name_m] / [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. NMS, but a lovely name.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]:: Beautiful name.
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]:: [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name.
[name_f]Liana[/name_f]:: NMS, but lovely.
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]:: [name_u]LOVE[/name_u].
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]:: [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]. Make sure you get your husband’s opinion :).
[name_f]Marni[/name_f]:: NMS, but a fine name.
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]:: I think this is lovely, and the nn [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Neva[/name_f] is more likely than [name_f]Gen[/name_f] these days.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]:: [name_u]LOVE[/name_u].
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]:: [name_u]LOVE[/name_u].
[name_f]Aylin[/name_f]:: It seems very trendy ([name_u]Aidan[/name_u] / [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] hybrid). NMS, but still okay.
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]:: NMS, but I like the honorific.
