Thoughts from Berries who have been Pregnant @35+

Hello!

So I had a doctor’s visit today just for blood work to confirm the positive HPT. The provider took the time to listen to a few of our concerns (love my office, so glad I found it!) and mentioned thinking about genetic testing prior to the next appointment, and possibly working with Maternal-Fetal Medicine due to a deficiency in a clotting factor that I normally do not have to take an anticoagulant for, but likely will during pregnancy. I feel like the genetic testing would probably ease any anxiety I feel during the pregnancy, I am usually the type that the more information you give me, the better, even if it isn’t necessarily positive information.

My question is, what has your experience been with genetic testing? Did you do it and regret it, not do it and regret it? Any insights would be helpful as this is my first!

In my state if you are 35 or over you go to a genetic counselor to discuss the genetic testing. I am pregnant with my second and 35 so I went to this. The counselor went over all the different types of testing I could have and I went for the middle of the road one since it wasn’t invasive (done through a blood test) and it checked for various problems. My testing came back fine so I didn’t have think about it too much.

I think that it is better to know. If you can find out sooner you have time to prepare for what you need.

Thank you for the response, @lavenderbelle. I think we will have the option to talk with a counselor before we go forward with the testing, I am glad to know that was helpful for you.
