Thoughts on a 'Christmasy' name

Bc of complications I’m scheduled for a c-section [name_u]December[/name_u] 27th. I’ve been contracting for weeks now, so I could go any day. We’ve decided on [name_u]James[/name_u] as the first name, but I’m stuck on a middle. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s cheesy to use [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] bc the baby is being born so close to [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]? [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] has no personal ties to us, I would be using it bc of [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. Another option is my husband’s name which is [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. But my dad’s name is [name_u]James[/name_u], so would that be weird to have my son named after my dad and husband? Other middle names in the running are [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] (family name on my husband’s side) or [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (nothing too meaningful about [name_m]Henry[/name_m], we just like it). Any thoughts would be much appreciated, I feel like I’ve been in labor for a month now and can’t think straight!

[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]

I think you’ve got four lovely combos there

Any of [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] would be fine. They flow well and they’re just all round fantastic names. Personally though, I’d stay away from [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. Great names and cool [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] connection, but I think it’d be nice for your little one to have at least one name that’s ‘his’, if you get my meaning.

If I had to pick just one: [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] isn’t cheesy! It’s not like you’re naming him [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] or Tinsel. It’s a subtle connection, and a lovely one at that. If you’re looking for other Christmassy options, there’s [name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_m]Christian[/name_m]/[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] and [name_m]Stephen[/name_m]. But any of the 4 combos you listed are lovely really

Thanks, that’s a good point about having a name ‘his’. And my husband isn’t pushing [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], so it’s not like I’d be hurting his feelings if we didn’t go with it.

Well, there is uh… the [name_u]ANGEL[/name_u] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], making [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] pretty darn Christmasy.
But [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] is great. If I had the chance to name a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] baby something Christmasy, I’d be all over that. So fun! [name_m]Ebenezer[/name_m], Fezziwig, [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]…
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Melchior[/name_m] - Like the magi (magus?) Too out there? I like the flow.

I think [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] is a nice nod to his birthday and not cheesy at all. I may be biased, my sister is named [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] because she was born days after [name_u]Christmas[/name_u].
I think it is a good idea to hold onto some namesake names in case you might need them in the future.

I like the Christmasy options! I agree that [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is just as Christmasy as [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Melchior[/name_m], too (as well as [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] and [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]…). My sister and I both have [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]-themed names ([name_f]Natalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f]), so I’m always on the look-out for good [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] names, haha. [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] are my favorites. Although I am entertaining [name_u]Frost[/name_u] as a middle…

From your options, I think I like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] or [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] best. I think it depends on whether or not you care about the similar endings with [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], and whether or not you care about him having “his own” name. I really like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], honestly, though. It’s super handsome and super Christmasy.

[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Wenceslaus[/name_m]? or [name_u]James[/name_u] Winterson would be handsome!

I was named [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], for [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], because I was born Dec. 22. I came home from the hospital on Dec. 25 – the nurses put me inside a stocking, which my parents still put up every year.

I would like to use [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] as a middle name if I have a future son, so as you can imagine, I am 100 percent behind [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]!

[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] sounds very manly and classy. Go for it!

ok, thanks everyone! i’m so excited to meet the little guy!! best of luck to all of you as well!

I like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] very much!
If you’re going the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] route, you could also consider [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].

All four of your middle name choices go very well with [name_u]James[/name_u]. I really like the idea of going with a name related to [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]. I really like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] or [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about -

[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Noel[/name_u] (nohl)
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Clement[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]North[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Pax[/name_u]

is a GREAT name at any time of the year!
