Thoughts on a few names, please.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!

I think that I’ve asked about most of these names before. There are a few newbies. For anybody who wants to comment again or comment for the first time, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I’m not expecting or really expecting to expect. But out ln is very Irish, & my background is Jewish. I’d prefer to do [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as a mn for most of these, after my late dad, [name_m]David[/name_m].

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]-not sure on a mn here. I’d prefer that it start w/a P, B or W to honor late family members. Any suggestions welcome.

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]-The popularity of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] bugs me a lot, but I just adore it. I don’t think that [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is too popular, right? [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] was my great grandmother’s name, so [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is extra special.

Finuala [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]-I love this. It’s strong, feminine, super unique & great w/out ln. The only issue is that our dog is [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. I think that it’s too close.

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]

[name_f]Gerty[/name_f]-I just can’t get into any full names for this, but I love it so much (this was actually dh’s suggestion), that I think I’m okay w/it on its own. What do you think? Obviously I couldn’t do [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]? Any other ‘D’ suggestions for mns?

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]-I don’t love this w/our ‘M’ ln, but I don’t think that it’s too bad.

[name_f]Nuala[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]-Is [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] okay on its own?

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] nn [name_f]Livy[/name_f]-I couldn’t do [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], right? Maybe [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]?

[name_f]Violet[/name_f]-I couldn’t do [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] either. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] works. Open to ‘D’ suggestions! I actually think that this name is too popular for me in real life, but dh really likes it. I do too. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t love the popularity.

You have some really lovely names on your list. Personally, I’m partial to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. Yes, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is popular along with [name_f]Ella[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Elena[/name_f], etc, but I think it’s such a strong, classic name that despite its popularity it will never sound trendy or overused. [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is a lovely vintage nickname that definitely makes [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] more unique.

While I think Finuala [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] are both pretty Irish names, depending on where you’re located pronunciation could definitely be an issue. I had to look both of them up to confirm I was pronouncing them right (I wasn’t) so I think there could be a lot of correcting going on with teachers, friends, etc. That might not be an issue for you though. I would say Finuala and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] are a bit too close. I do think [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] can stand on its own.

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is pretty but a bit too cutesy for me. I would hesitate pairing them the same way you’re hesitating with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], although [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is a bit more solid with more nickname options. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] comes to mind, along with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f].

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is vintage and lovely, as is [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]. I could also see [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], or [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f].

Re: middle names for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] starting with P, B, or W, some come to mind: [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/x, [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Winona[/name_f].

I’ve left [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] for last because they’re simply not my style, but that doesn’t make them bad combos. I think [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] flow very nicely together. The only logical fn I can think of for [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] is [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], which definitely seems stuck in the past. I think [name_f]Greta[/name_f] could also work, but being the same length as [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] that might not make sense. I think a really feminine mn paired with [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] is nice, like [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] or [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. With [name_f]Greta[/name_f], some ideas are [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] or [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Dolores[/name_f].

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is my favorite. I love it! [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is very nice too.

Oh, you have a lovely list here!

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - I would normally be a bit iffy on two botanical names together in one combo, but I actually really like these two together. They complement one another nicely and the flow is perfect.

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - I have such a soft spot for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], it’s so sweet. I’m not so great with middles, but here’s a few ideas for names beginning with P, B & W;

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Bethan[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Brielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Brianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Bianca[/name_f]

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Pamela[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Pauline[/name_f]

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_u]Windsor[/name_u]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] - Oh I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]! It’d be on my list if my cousin hadn’t beat me to it, lol. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] “[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]” is stunning. I work with children and have only met two Eleanors, one being a [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] and the other is [name_f]Elly[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] (depending on which parent you ask, lol). I’d think [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] was pretty uncommon as a nn for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], personally!

Finuala [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - I love the sound of this one, but do prefer the look of Fionuala or [name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f]! I think Finuala [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would be perfect though, and isn’t too close to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], imo.

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - I’ve never really gotten the hype for [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]. It’s pretty, but it’s never been my cup of tea.

[name_f]Gerty[/name_f] - Hmm, I want to like this one a lot, but something’s just not clicking with me. I do like [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] though. Maybe [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Danielle[/name_f]/[name_f]Daniella[/name_f]? [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Davina[/name_f]?

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] has a lovely ring to it, it’s very sweet!

[name_f]Nuala[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is nice, but it doesn’t shine for me quite as much as Finuala/Fionuala/[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f]! [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] however is perfectly fine on it’s own, I actually know one who is in her 40s and never seems to have an issue with her name sounding “unprofessional” (an argument I’ve never really understood anyway).

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] nn [name_f]Livy[/name_f] - I mean, you could do [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], the flow’s pretty decent there. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] nn [name_f]Livy[/name_f] is super cute! Maybe [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Davina[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Daniella[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]?

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - Personally I’ve only ever met one, maybe two little Violets, so I wouldn’t say it’s too popular imo? I do recommend check your state’s popularity on the SSA site though to see how popular it is regionally, as statistics can change wildly when you look at state data ([name_u]Blakely[/name_u] is #250 nationally but is in the top 100 for a few states). [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] isn’t undoable though, imo!

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] – it would be cute on a little girl but harder to picture on an adult. Maybe [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] or [name_f]Deirdre[/name_f]?

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] – for middles I’ll suggest [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Briallen[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_f]Winona[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]-I also love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and am annoyed that several acquaintances have used it. But I don’t know any who use [name_f]Nellie[/name_f].

Finuala [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]–cute and it’s close to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] but I think you could get away with it

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]–the [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] association is too strong for me on [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]

[name_f]Gerty[/name_f]–I think it needs a full name. I feel like [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] could be just funky enough to be usable. [name_f]Margery[/name_f] could possibly work too.

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]–my favorite from your list. I don’t mind alliteration, and I like the balance of serious and sweet

[name_f]Nuala[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]–I like [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] on its own

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] nn [name_f]Livy[/name_f]–[name_f]Olive[/name_f] is a little too funky for me. I wouldn’t do [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f].

[name_f]Violet[/name_f]–this is one that’s popular on the lists but I haven’t met any. I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f].

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is vintage, feminine and cute

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is sweet and charming!
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Winona[/name_f]?
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Bethan[/name_f]?

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is just charming and [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is wonderful!
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would be lovely too and would be a nod to your grandmother. That also makes me think of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]/[name_f]Helena[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f].

Finuala [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is so fantastic and strong. I really like it. It is a bit close to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] though
[name_f]Nuala[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]? [name_f]Nella[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]? [name_f]Una[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f],?

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] -it’s okay. Flows well but [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is really harsh and unappealing to me. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]?

[name_f]Gerty[/name_f] is kind of cute and quirky.
[name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f]?
[name_f]Gerty[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Freda[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f]

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] -sweet and subtle feeling.

[name_f]Nuala[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]- I suggested this above without looking down. [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] can totally stand alone

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] - cute, quirky and vintage. Olivez like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], feels very namey so i think you could get away with it. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] are lovely though. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] maybe?*

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - sharp and concise yet feminine and frilly. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is nice
[name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] as alternatives?

I just love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]! What a sweet name. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is probably my second favorite.

Middle names for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] suggestions:
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Paulina[/name_f]/[name_f]Pauline[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Winslet[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Winona[/name_f]

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - This is very sweet! I don’t love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] though, but as a combo this works!

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]- I have noticed [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] a lot more recently. But she’s timeless and classical, and [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is a wonderful choice of nickname. You’ll probably find most [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]'s go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], or even [name_f]Nora[/name_f], so [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] will make her that little bit different. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is a magnificent combo btw!

Finuala [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - It’s kinda close to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], but I think you could get away with it. I want to love Finuala, it’s so whimsical and feminine. I don’t really love it though. Finuala [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is a lovely combo.

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - I can’t bring myself to like [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]. It feels outdated and has no attractive sounds to me. The combo flows nicely though.

[name_f]Gerty[/name_f] - Not at all my style but I do think [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] could work by herself. I personally think I’d prefer to see [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] written down. [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Delyth[/name_f], and [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] all come to mind.

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - I think alliteration names actually sound super cool. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] to me is very old fashioned, but I think [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is a nice combo.

[name_f]Nuala[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] is perfectly usable on her own. I do love the F of Finuala though. [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is very sweet!

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] nn [name_f]Livy[/name_f] - [name_f]Olive[/name_f] nn [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] is lovely. I think you could do [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and it’s wonderful!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I actually love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and think if you loved it you could definitely use it. But I do see why you have reservations. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] are fantastic alternatives. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Delyth[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Dakota[/name_u], or [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]?

As for middles for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], how about [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f], or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u].

Thank you so much for the replies everyone!

bounceparty-I never thought about how [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] was too cutesy, but you may be right. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] isn’t my top favorite anyway. I used to love [name_f]Greta[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gerty[/name_f], but [name_f]Greta[/name_f] has kind of been politicized recently as someone posted about a few days ago. It will probably pass, but it has made me not like the name as much. As for pronunciation of Finuala; it would most definitely get mispronounced. I live in the US midwest. My sister in law has a Se@mus, Cilli@n, M@l@chy & E@mon, & they all get said wrong a lot. But it doesn’t bother them, because it’s kind of worth it to have a special unique name. And I feel that way too for the most part. Her oldest son, Li@m, is the only one that people don’t mess up!

Leafsgirl44-Thanks for the mn suggestions for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]'s mn is [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. She’s a dog, & it shouldn’t bug me using [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] for a human, but alas it does! I do like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] though. And [name_f]Pauline[/name_f] is my grandma whom I’m wanting to honor, so [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Pauline[/name_f] is perfect. I just don’t care for the name much unfortunately. I honestly rarely hear [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I just see it a lot on these boards!

Sarah1800-You’re vote #2 for [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] being too cutesy. I like the idea of [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] instead. I’m glad that you like [name_f]Nuala[/name_f].

greyblue-Oh, I kind of like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] to honor [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]? That might just work! I love love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. I am really liking the suggestions of [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] & [name_f]Willow[/name_f] for [name_f]Gerty[/name_f] mns.

Elanorelle-Oh yeah, [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]! I like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] a lot. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] is also pretty cute.

Thanks carysmarie!

Maybe you’re right that [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] & [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] do work. I guess there’s nothing too wrong w/having a double botanical name. I really like the suggestion of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] a lot, but it totally rhymes w/our ln.
