I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]! I would call her [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], but I realize there are so many tempting nicknames with this name. I vastly prefer [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. I am not a [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] fan.

These [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nicknames have two different vibes for me. [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is exotic, Continental and sophisticated. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is vintage, sweet and cute. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] may be more suitable for a baby or child but I still think I prefer the elegance of [name_f]Greta[/name_f] (the nn [name_f]Gretel[/name_f] may be better for a youngster).

If you have to pick one, I prefer [name_f]Greta[/name_f] (although it also stands on it’s own nicely and I actually don’t like it as a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]) and I really don’t like [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] at all. Too “shabby chic” feel to me.

Agree with this. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] also seems very trendy to me (as in, it suddenly seems everywhere), while [name_f]Greta[/name_f] seems more established.

We are pretty sold on [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] as a given name, as it honors my mother and two of our grandmothers, but we aren’t hot on it as the name she would go by. I love a lot of the nickname options [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] offers. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] would have been one of my first choices, but my sister-in-law is a [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], so that is out, unfortunately. DH and I both like [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and can’t decide between the two. They seem to be very different to me, but I can’t figure out exactly how… I’d love to hear some thoughts on both of them and see how others perceive each name. It might help us decide!

I love both nicknames so much! I voted for [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] just because I think it’s so cute on a baby/little girl, but I agree that [name_f]Greta[/name_f] ages better.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Margie[/name_f]? I have a very close friend named [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] who normally just uses [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_f]Margie[/name_f]. The name has really grown on me, and I know she loves it. Good luck!

I voted for [name_f]Greta[/name_f], because its more related to the name [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
Sorry that probably doesn’t make sense. What I mean is, my name is [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and have always gone by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. Whenever people found out my full name, they’d say ‘[name_m]How[/name_m] do you get [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] from [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]?’
I realize thats ridiculous because its been used as a nn for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] for a long time, but I’m thinking a girl named [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] would get that even more than I did, whereas I think [name_f]Greta[/name_f] would be easier to ‘get’.
I think that’s also partly because I don’t know if [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is an equally well known nn for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I have an Aunt [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], and her middle name is [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], which is silly, but clearly my great grandmother didn’t even know that [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is one of its nicknames.
That said I love both the names equally, and think both would work. I just thought I should mention why I voted for one over the other.

But like did you guys consider [name_f]Margo[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f]?
Its a really cute and hip nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and it means the exact same thing.

I’m with emmasmom, [name_f]Meg[/name_f] is my favorite NN for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. It’s short, sweet, and spunky. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is another cute NN.

This is tough. We discussed [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] at one point, so that would be my first choice. I also like [name_f]Meg[/name_f], but that sounds more like [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] than [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] to me. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is very cute, but maybe too cute for an adult. I get the appeal of [name_f]Greta[/name_f], but at the same time it sounds a bit harsh to me.

Maybe you could smoosh them together like the [name_m]Bush[/name_m]'s smooshed [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] to nn the baby [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. I voted [name_f]Greta[/name_f] just because I think is sounds so much prettier than [name_f]Maisie[/name_f].

I personally prefer [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], but both are nice. Why don’t you wait and see which name better matches her personality. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] to me conjures an image of a girly, social-butterfly type of girl, while [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is a more reserved, intellectual type of girl…but that’s just my opinion!
