Thoughts on Adaline?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!

I am due to be induced next week, and we still don’t have a name for our baby girl!

Out of our name choices, I have found myself leaning towards [name_f]Adaline[/name_f], but I feel that between all of the different spelling variations (Adalynn, [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], etc), it might be more popular than the name rankings lead me to believe. I also am not in love with the nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. If we are to use [name_f]Adaline[/name_f], I would want to use [name_f]Ada[/name_f] as a nickname, which my husband is still not convinced works.

So tell me… am I crazy, is [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] as popular as I’m imagining? I have yet to meet one myself but I am wondering if those with older kids have run into a lot of them in their kids classes.

Our son is [name_u]Archer[/name_u], so it would be something to consider in a sib set. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time we tell someone his name, they always say what a great name it is, so I am definitely seeking a great name for baby sister. The other two names we are considering are [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f].

I think (at least in the US) the [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] spelling is most common and it was #92 last year. [name_f]Stella[/name_f] was #40, though, and [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is out of the top 500 altogether so if popularity is a concern, I would suggest [name_f]Faye[/name_f].

Maybe [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Estella[/name_f]? that way you get a lengthier name like [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] but a bit more obscurity and the sound of [name_f]Stella[/name_f]? I love [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] / [name_f]Estella[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] and I think [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] sounds great with [name_u]Archer[/name_u]!

Hopefully this helps!

I have taught for many years and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is very popular and the multiple spelling choices are a pain. With that being said the popularity would not bother me as much as the spelling issues. I really like [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is sweet and had a warm vibe. I would just choose [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] or [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] are sweet. When you combine all the alternate spellings [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] ranks #7

I love [name_f]Faye[/name_f] and really like [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] is nice but the multiple spellings/pronunciations is off putting for me and I feel like I see it around a lot.

Have you thought about [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]? [name_u]Archer[/name_u] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] would be a great pair as well.

[name_f]Adaline[/name_f] is sweet and stylish. I do think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] could work.

With [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Adalynn[/name_f], it is more popular than it first appears, but I’ve still never met one :person_shrugging: [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f] are lovely too

I know three Adelines and one [name_f]Adaline[/name_f]. It does seem pretty popular where I am (Kansas, US). That said, I do think it’s a lovely name, and that [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is perfectly usable as a nickname (the [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] I know goes primarily by Ada).

[name_f]Stella[/name_f] is gorgeous. I do know two of those, so it may be more common than you’d like, too.

But FAYE! :two_hearts: I vote for [name_f]Faye[/name_f]! I’ve never met one, always loved the name, and it’s not popular at all. I know one person whose middle is [name_f]Faye[/name_f], and it’s just so strikingly gorgeous.

I only know one [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] (spelled like that), my cousin. So while it depends on where you live, I don’t think it’s too popular.

I think she’s usually just called [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], so [name_f]Addie[/name_f] can probably be avoided? I think the nickname [name_f]Ada[/name_f] works with your spelling, [name_f]Adaline[/name_f].
However, if you want to call her Ada… what about naming her [name_f]Ada[/name_f]? [name_f]Ada[/name_f] can absolutely work as a full name on its own, and is less popular than Adeline/Adaline/Adalynn. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_u]Archer[/name_u] sound good together.

Your other names, [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f], are also good names. There are no bad choices here. Good luck!
