Thoughts on Ambrose (Not expecting!)

I have recently been loving the name [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]! It’s been on the radar for a while, and a GP name for a few months, but the more I think about it, the more I think it could make a really nice name!

What are your thoughts?

Bump  Any thoughts?

I really like it! Its in my list of names  It has a calm, quiet but firm kind of feel to it. Definitely a name to be brought out and dusted off!

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] has been on my favourites list for ages, with the nickname Ambie, which I adore! So I really like it, and would love to see it used more often

I’m sorry, but I picture an old English butler or driver.

I love it, it’s been one of my favorites for a long time. Husband veto’d it long ago though, unfortunately! I would love to meet a little [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m].

I think it’s very nice! I can easily picture it on a little boy or a young man.

I love it as the name for a character in a book or game. But to me it feels like its not of this time. Like naming a child [name_m]Octavian[/name_m] or [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m]. They are fine names but feel a bit dead, like a butterfly pinned to a display board in a museum.

My partner and I love it so much that it’s the top contender for our little guy, due in eight weeks. We tend toward vintage and uncommon names in general, and had a hard time narrowing down our looong (50+) list for most of my pregnancy, but [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] shined from the moment we considered it. To us, it has a gentleness and a strength, a laid-back jauntiness, a warm resonance. We’re considering [name_m]Abe[/name_m] as a nickname but think it works well without one; the only downside we can see is that some people might call him Bro, in which case we’ll kindly correct them. I’m gushing a little bit (maybe it’s the hormones); here’s hoping the name (and our ideas about the name) “fit” our baby when we finally meet him in [name_f]September[/name_f]. As for you - it’s definitely a lovely and usable name! Keep it on your list!

I really love [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]. My husband hates it, so I won’t get to use it. But I think it’s a lovely name and it fits my style. I prefer the Dutch spelling Ambroos, because it looks sweeter somehow. If that makes any sense.

I love the meaning of [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] but feel neutral about the name.
