Thoughts on Amelie?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
What are your thoughts on [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]? I think it’s a really beautiful name.
But, do you think it would be shortened?
If so, what to? I dislike “Mel” as a shortening - would that be intuitive? I’ve only ever known [name_f]Melinda[/name_f] / [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] as “Mel” however.
Thank you!

I always thought it wouldn’t be shortened (only ever heard it in the movie with that title) and I love it. [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f] would seem more appropriate to me.

I think it’s a fun name, it does immediately make me think of the movie, but it’s by no means a bad association. The first thing that came to mind for nicknames was [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], though I’m not sure what spelling would be best and it might not work depending on how you pronounce it. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] could work too. Though idk if I’d personally shorten it.

I think [name_f]Amy[/name_f] is intuitive usually or [name_f]Ame[/name_f] (ah-MEH) in Spanish/Italian speaking countries

I like the name, it is in my extended list

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is gorgeous - elegant, pretty and sassy too!

I’ve met a few Amelies - some have been shortened, others haven’t. I don’t think it would 100% be shortened but you can’t rule it out.

[name_u]Mel[/name_u] isn’t intuitive to me. It’s not the syllable I’d emphasise nor a go to nickname these days. The Amelies I’ve met have been [name_u]Ami[/name_u], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is so lovely!! It feels very mature and still has that fun childish aspect at the same time.

I’ve known two Amelies and they both go by their full names - No unwarranted shortenings!!

I adore the name [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], I think it’s just so pretty and sweet! The one I know doesn’t get nicknamed at all, as far as I know. But hypothetically, I’d like [name_f]Amy[/name_f] as a nickname for it the most!

i love amelie! i think of the gracie abrams’ song :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

i wouldn’t intuitively shorten it, but if i had to choose one, i’d say millie.

amelie is lovely! i agree that it’s very beautiful. i don’t think most people would intuitively shorten it, though i used to know an amelia (so, similar enough) who went by mel, so it feels a bit natural to me! i wouldn’t call an amelie “mel”, though, unless she asked me to.

i could maybe see it shortened to lee? i don’t think there’s really any super intuitive nickname for amelie, though.

I love the name [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. I think it is just so much of a sweet name. Would use it apart from to similar to my name [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] aka [name_f]Millie[/name_f].
Some nicknames that I can think of are…
Amy/Aimee
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]
Leigh/Lee
[name_f]Mimi[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Amie[/name_f]

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is gorgeous!

She’s elegant, sweet, has a pretty international flair and has a lovely melodic sound. [name_f]Every[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] I know is just [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] so I wouldn’t worry about the ‘Mel’ nickname as I think this unlikely. I feel [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is more intuitive!

I agree with everyone saying that [name_f]Millie[/name_f] feels most intuitive to me, or even [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]. I think it’s a very pretty, warm sounding name.
