Thoughts on Ananias?

What is your initial reaction to [name_m]Ananias[/name_m]? I think it’s interesting but have some concerns over the (usually) feminine first syllable, and that it (maybe?) is a bit cumbersome. Please let me know what you think!

Hadn’t heard of it before but initially thought that it’s a bit complicated. Yes, a bit cumbersome. Seems like a misspelled [name_f]Anais[/name_f]?

I agree with cactusgram. I’d never seen it before but I thought it was too cumbersome. Maybe it’s because I’m not super clear on how to pronounce it, but I didn’t find it particularly feminine though

It’s a mouthful & a tongue-twister for some so I’d suggest mostly using his nn. The intuitive nn is [name_f]Ani[/name_f] or [name_m]Nye[/name_m] (I personally don’t like either)

For those who don’t know, [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] is from the Bible. It’s pronounced ‘ana-[name_m]NYE[/name_m]-as’

I actually really like the sound of it- it’s sort of like Tobias, but with more of a flourish.

However, it’s likely that you’ll get a lot of people saying “ew, made-up name!” and a few somewhat more Biblically-knowledgeable people who will warn you about the association.

I actually had to act out the story of Ananias and Sapphirawhen I was still going to Lutheran school- they lie about the proportion of their property that they’re donating to the church, then they brag about how awesome and generous they are until God gets tired of their hypocrisy and strikes them down. (The story’s not especially fun, but dramatically pretending that you’ve just been struck by a bolt of lightning and throwing yourself down the stairs in front of the pulpit is!)

Not a big fan- i think the only people who are going to recognize it will associate it with the guy who got struck dead in the bible

Agree with pps, the association is not worth it.

I’m not familiar with the association, but it looks like a typo of the word ananas to me (which is [name_m]French[/name_m] for pineapple).

Sorry I thought it was a girl’s name posted in the wrong forum at first…seems/sounds feminine to me.
Maybe it’d make a good mn? It’s not a ‘bad’ name just hard to prn.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] too much of a tongue twister for me, although I can see the appeal.

i’m afraid I also read it as a misspelled [name_m]French[/name_m] pinneapple at first. Then when I looked again I was reminded of another name, [name_m]Aeneas[/name_m] (quite a heroic name) perhaps it’s an alternative to [name_m]Ananias[/name_m].

It’s a biblical name I’ve always been fond of (Shadrach, anyone?) I’m not sure if it would make a good first, but as a middle it would add punch to any combo.

I quite like it.

I like it a lot! I’m actually mulling over [name_m]Stafford[/name_m] [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] for my own list. I like both [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] and Hananiah, which I believe are both variants of each other. I would love to meet a little [name_m]Ananias[/name_m]!

For what it’s worth, there are multiple [name_m]Ananias[/name_m]-es in the Bible. There’s [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] and [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f], sure. But there was also a man of God named [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] who God used to heal the apostle [name_m]Paul[/name_m] from his blindness, and he’s a pretty good Biblical association, imo. I would love to meet a little [name_m]Ananias[/name_m]!

What a mouthful!
It is not my cup of tea, and I feel this kid will get teased
‘[name_m]Ananias[/name_m]’ sounds too much like ‘an anus’
Sorry to be crude, but that is all I see with that name…

I love it!! And I love very few boy names!! I hope you go for it

My only concern would be that I’m not certain which syllable to emphasize: [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-Na-NEE-As? [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-NAH-Nee-As? Or even [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-Na-NIE-As? But that would not keep me from using the name!!
