Really, really like it. Strong and masculine and a bit spunky, a great name. I like the potential nn Gus.
I’m in Australia, we have a 10 yr old Angus living next door and I’ve heard it often enough as a name to not immediately think of beef.
It’s a classic, masculine first name, so I’d rate it above, say, [name_u]Parker[/name_u] or [name_m]Zayden[/name_m]…but I’d pick most other classic, masculine first names over it. It makes me think “an angry anus” (my brain does weird things with words!) and reminds me of the cow breed/burgers. I’d be more OK with it in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] or somewhere else where it’s a reasonably common name, but in the U.S. it would take a very good-looking, charismatic guy to pull off.
I wasnt a big fan of [name_m]Angus[/name_m] but last year I went for a home stay in Australia and the family I stayed with had a son named [name_m]Angus[/name_m] and I absolutely fell in love with the name!! It
s strong and cool name.
I`d go for it!!
Also, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Angus[/name_m] go really well together!
All I think of is angus meat.
Same, all I can think of is beef.
[name_f]My[/name_f] friend has a 3 year old son named [name_m]Angus[/name_m] and he makes me love it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it wasn’t for that I’d still really like it - it’s a very strong, handsome name and it’s not over-used!
I definitely associate it with the beef.
I think of [name_m]Angus[/name_m] [name_m]Young[/name_m]. I don’t really like it, still.
I personally wouldn’t use it because its not my style and its pretty common over here. However I think it’s a great name and I love the nickname [name_u]Gus[/name_u].
Food is one of my greatest passions in life, so, yes, my first thought went to beef. However, I still think it is a good strong name.
I am hungry for steak now though…
I love it!
I don’t connect it with beef and I think it’s a beautiful interesting name. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u] too!
I’m torn on this one. I like it in some ways, but it’s hard not to think of [name_m]Angus[/name_m] beef. Does your husband/you like [name_m]Fergus[/name_m]?
It is 100 percent cow/beef for me.
I just adore it, not least because I think no nickname is cuter than [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. If the beef association (not the first thing that springs to -my- mind, but still, I can see how that would be a problem) bothers you too much, I totally agree with Emsky and the suggestion of [name_m]Fergus[/name_m], which sounds equally manly, classic-but-not-boring and gets you to the delightful [name_u]Gus[/name_u] too !
But really, I think [name_m]Angus[/name_m] is a fine, fine name !
