Thoughts on Anniston/Aniston?

Thought it was cute but not sure I want nn [name_f]Ann[/name_f]

For me, it’s too tied to the actress but if that doesn’t bother you it’s fine.

I really, really, really dislike it. It’s a trendy surname that will be dated to a specific time. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] instead?

You’d most likely wind up with [name_f]Annie[/name_f], and yeah, to me it basically sounds like a tribute to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f].

I prefer Schwimmer. :stuck_out_tongue:

Celebrity worship sorry

I agree that it’s too tied to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] Aniston - it definitely looks like a tribute to her. I would expect [name_f]Annie[/name_f] to be the nickname, though, rather than [name_f]Ann[/name_f].

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you really love [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] that much?

I dislike all names with a “son” on the end for a girl: [name_f]Maddison[/name_f], [name_u]Addison[/name_u], and [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]/[name_m]Emmerson[/name_m]. [name_f]Anniston[/name_f] is no better. It may be cute, but it’s a fad that will pass… just like the name [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. Yes, you will get [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f], just like [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] got [name_f]Jen[/name_f] and [name_f]Jenny[/name_f].

Yes, exactly.

If you’re attracted to it because you like surname names for girls, what about [name_u]Ellison[/name_u] nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_u]Sloane[/name_u]?

LOL

I agree that Aniston feels like a tribute to the actress. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f].

She’ll thank you for not going with Cox.

I think surnames as first names are a matter of personal taste, but since this one is all but unknown on anyone BUT the actress, it’s way too strong an association for me to recommend … even though I love Friends. Maybe [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_f]Annesley[/name_f], [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], [name_u]Ellison[/name_u]? I don’t think the [name_f]Annie[/name_f]/[name_f]Anne[/name_f] NN is inevitable.

This made me laugh. Yes, I am in agreement that all anyone would ever think of is [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] Aniston. It’s an okay name, but not my style even without such strong ties. And it will be dated in about one second. I love Friends— but no.

I think it is terrible. What is wrong with the classic [name_f]Anne[/name_f]?

Wow I can’t believe how many people dislike this name. It’s #1 on out list for our baby girl due in [name_f]October[/name_f]. If you tell people you do not want her to be called [name_f]Ann[/name_f] or [name_f]Annie[/name_f] they won’t do it. My son’s name is weston and I told people before he was even born to not ever call him [name_m]Wes[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Weston[/name_m] and [name_f]Anniston[/name_f] go very well together. I also don’t think it is too trendy. I have never heard of anyone naming their baby Aniston and I love unique names. I doubt anyone else in school will have the same name as her. My husband and I love it and we will most likely name our daughter [name_f]Anniston[/name_f]!

Honestly I’m not much of a fan of surname names, or “boyish” names on girls… but I can say that Aniston/[name_f]Anniston[/name_f] I really don’t mind at all! I think it fits right in with all those Madisons. As for the remarks about the name being dated immediately… so what?? [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] and [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] and [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] where the heyday of names 25-30 years ago, then there was [name_f]Britney[/name_f]/[name_f]Brittney[/name_f]/[name_f]Brittany[/name_f], now we have [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u], [name_u]Madison[/name_u], Sulllivan, [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], etc etc. I think it sounds like it blends in perfectly with the common naming styles going on right now, and that’s not a bad thing, and it’s also not hugely common, which is GREAT! I think that if you love a name and it fells right to you, you should use it… My children have “out there” names and I have never once regretted it, raised eyebrows and naysayers while I was pregnant and all!

As for the nickname [name_f]Ann[/name_f]/[name_f]Anne[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f], kids may do this, but it’s not inevitable if you always plan on calling her by her full name. My son’s name is [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m], and EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER always asks me if I call him [name_m]Ti[/name_m]/[name_m]Ty[/name_m] - I do not, only [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m]. He just finished kindergarten, and nobody called him [name_m]Ti[/name_m]/[name_m]Ty[/name_m] all year because he identifies himself as [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m].

In short… I say go for it. It doesn’t sound harsh or weird to me at all, it sounds current. And honestly, I think it would be pretty cute on a little girl, and I think an adult woman would wear it well, too.

Another non-fan here, for all the above reasons. If you are really super attached to it, it’s your daughter. But it’s almost like naming her [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]. She’ll never get rid of [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], and neither will you. I’d make sure you’re really okay with that before you commit.

A thought on all the talk about this being too tied to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] [name_f]Anniston[/name_f]… maybe, for us, that’s true. But the kids your daughter will grow up with will not have this strong connection. Maybe if you named her [name_f]Miley[/name_f] or [name_u]Montana[/name_u], but honestly even that would probably be outside of their realm of experience while they’re maturing. Kids born now will have 4-5 years before they become seriously exposed to pop culture, and even then it will be culture that applies to them. So, maybe stay away from Sponge [name_m]Bob[/name_m] and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], or [name_f]Uniqua[/name_f], or [name_f]Dora[/name_f].

[name_f]Do[/name_f] people named [name_f]Brittney[/name_f] feel like they can’t get away from [name_f]Brittney[/name_f] Spears? Or with the name [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] feel too tied to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Hewitt[/name_m]? Or [name_u]Courtney[/name_u] to [name_u]Courtney[/name_u] Cox? Are people worried about naming their daughters [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] because of [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]? (Or [name_f]Jolie[/name_f], for that matter.)

I’m a big surname fan, and I actually really like the sound and look of Aniston/[name_f]Anniston[/name_f]. But I much prefer it on a boy, not just for the ston/son ending but because it reminds me of the newly popular [name_m]Anakin[/name_m]. I think the connection to the actress would also be greatly mitigated if the name showed up on a little boy, rather than a little girl.
