Thoughts on Ariane?

Pronounced “ah-ree-UHN” (a as in car)
I recently heard that name and think it just sounds really cute.

I love [name_f]Ariane[/name_f]! But I’ve always heard it pronounced ah (well as in apple) ree ANN — which sounds really gentle & airy to me. One of my favorites! The “uhn” ending makes me think “aryan” which is not an association I’d want :grimacing:

I agree with @lumosmaxima. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] with the standard ah-ree-AN pronunciation; aah-ree-UN sounds like [name_m]Aryan[/name_m] to me. But this might just be a misunderstanding of how you want it pronounced.

Ariane is strong and earthy. I quite like it

I love [name_f]Ariane[/name_f]! I prefer the -ann ending pronunciation because I agree with @lumosmaxima that the other one sounds too much like [name_m]Aryan[/name_m].

My neighbours named their daughter this. In a northern, Yorkshire accent, you have to be careful to make sure it’s an “an” sound on the end rather than “un” for the reasons mentioned above! Otherwise quite like it, just not sure it works in my accent/part of the world.

It’s a very pretty name, but unfortunately sounds too close to aryan to me. Sorry!

Very pretty name!

Might be a little difficult for some people to pronounce but I think it’s pretty.

Super pretty! I like it. Definitely has familiar sounds and reminds me of other [name_u]Ari[/name_u]- names!

I think it’s nice? I’ve had [name_f]Arianne[/name_f] on my list for about a decade now so I admit to preferring that (which I say AIR-ee-ANN, but the only time I came across it in real life, that was the pronunciation used), but it is super pretty. I also like the [name_m]German[/name_m] pronunciation. It’s super pretty and unexpected, and I love [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] as nns. I would love to meet an [name_f]Ariane[/name_f]/Arianne; it’s a great name.

Good luck!

I think [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] is lovely. It’s a very chic, international name and reminds me of the UFC fighter [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] Lipski.

I would pronounce it differently to you, but perhaps that’s due to language/accent differences.

I had the same initial reaction. [name_f]My[/name_f] instinct would be to pronounce it are-ee-ANN or airy-ANN, and I’m sure she would get that a lot.

I think it’s too close to the problematic [name_m]Aryan[/name_m].
