Thoughts on Arielle?

I have loved the name [name]Arielle[/name] for a while but I’m not sure about using it due to the [name]Ariel[/name] from The [name]Little[/name] Mermaid reference… granted that was my all time favorite movie as a child. The fiance loves it. What do you berries think? Too tied to a red headed mermaid or too dated or ? Thanks!

I love [name]Arielle[/name] (pronounced R E elle right?) and I would love to see it used [name]IRL[/name]. Go for it!

I think it’s fine to use! I dont think the [name]Little[/name] Mermaid connection is a big deal, I actually know a boy who’s about 12 named [name]Ariel[/name] and the movie connection was never a teasing factor as far as I know.

[name]Love[/name] it! [name]One[/name] of my friends nearly used it for one of her triplets a couple years ago. I think it’s completely usable, although the Disney association makes me like it more. That’s half the appeal of my girls’ choice ([name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name]) to me, haha. I think [name]Ari[/name] and [name]Elle[/name] are sweet nns, too.

If the Disney connection is too much, what about [name]Arianne[/name] or [name]Ariana[/name]? Or even something like [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], or [name]Aurelia[/name]/[name]Aurelie[/name]?

Good luck!

I think I may use it. I said in a previous post I think she’ll have red hair when she’s born, if so I will laugh! I love that it has [name]Ari[/name] and [name]Elle[/name] because her twin’s name starts with [name]Ari[/name]- and my middle name is [name]Michelle[/name] and I love [name]Elle[/name]. It works. The tough part is finding a middle name cus most of the ones we like won’t flow or starts with S and our last name starts with S (no A.S.S for us!). And also choosing between this and our other two favorites.

[name]Aurora[/name] is our top contender right now actually! & I love [name]Aurelie[/name] but can’t use it because fiance thinks it sounds like orally. :frowning:

[name]Arielle[/name] is such a lovely Jewish name and in this version, there’s less “Disney” to it. I love [name]Arielle[/name] [name]Michal[/name], but that’s probaby too Hebrew school for most people.

What about pairing [name]Arielle[/name] with a more traditional, old-fashioned name?

[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Rosamund[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Blanche[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Arielle[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]

I like it! If you love it you should definitely use it, I don’t think it is too mermaid at all

The name does nothing for me. I went to school with an [name]Arielle[/name], so I don’t think of the [name]Little[/name] Mermaid. There is something about [name]Ariel[/name] on a boy that I love.

Honestly, the first thing that came to mind was [name]Sebastian[/name] the crab’s pronunciation of [name]Ariel[/name]. But I do think the name is pretty, plus her generation won’t be as tied to that movie as ours is. And, let’s face it - the movie’s cute. It’s not the worst association in the world at all.

Pretty and usuable, imo. You could also consider [name]Orielle[/name] - almost the same name, but a little more removed from the little mermaid.

I like the name [name]Arielle[/name]. (unless it is pronouced with the first syllable like air - that sounds like the word aerial). I really don’t think the [name]Little[/name] Mermaid reference matters. It was in use before the movie and I don’t see why it can’t be used now.

I think [name]Arielle[/name] is very pretty. I like [name]Ariel[/name] too. I don’t mind the [name]Little[/name] Mermaid connection.

I noticed you are having twins and you said [name]Aurora[/name] is one of your top contenders. I would probably choose [name]Aurora[/name] or [name]Arielle[/name], not both. If you used both, people would make the Disney connection a lot more.

Oh no, I am having boy/girl twins. [name]Aurora[/name] is on the list for girl along with [name]Arielle[/name] and a few others. The boy’s name has been set in stone for a long time

I thought of that too! haha

@Miloowen I like [name]Ariel/name [name]Michal[/name] too :wink:

@Sarajoy I had a boss who always said my name in a Jamaican accent like [name]SebastIan[/name] says it, because it was the only way she knew to say it correctly (R-E-[name]Elle[/name] instead of [name]Air[/name]-ee-elle).

Speaking as someone who has this name, I say go for it! I love my name. I feel like there are pros and cons to each spelling, too. [name]Arielle[/name] I feel is more likely to get pronounced correctly and less likely to get compared to The [name]Little[/name] Mermaid, but [name]Ariel[/name] has the connections to the Bible, [name]Shakespeare[/name], and poetry ([name]Sylvia[/name] Plath).

@ariel_michal I love that you have this name & can give me input  Definitely leaning towards this name a lot more now that I know others find it beautiful and it’s not as linked to the little mermaid as I thought.

I know an [name]Ariella[/name], pn [name]Ari[/name]-[name]ELLA[/name]. I think its really lovely!

If you do use it, be prepared for pronunciation difficulties. My daughter is Arienne (which is more unusual, I know), but I always have to say “It’s like saying the letters R-E-N” so people don’t start it with “air”. It’s kind of annoying, and we certainly never anticipated that. [name]Arielle[/name]'s a beautiful name, though! I’m curious what the boy twin is going to be named.

My name is [name]Arielle[/name] (pronounced [name]Air[/name]-ee-[name]Elle[/name] or [name]Air[/name]-ee-elle) and my middle name is Shanté and I’m terrified that I’ll marry someone with a last name starting with an S cause my initials would be A.S.S
