My husband and I are still stumped on a name for our son, due in February. His favorite is [name_m]George[/name_m], mine is [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]. A name we both like, but don’t love is [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]. My husband is Greek and is (secretly) wanting a Greek name. I have always loved the name [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and while looking at Nameberry saw that [name_u]Ari[/name_u] could be a nn for [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m]. [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] is definetly a Greek name with big personality, but I feel like using [name_u]Ari[/name_u] as a nn tames it down until he decides if he wants to use his full name.
So, thoughts on [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m], nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u]? And I know [name_u]Ari[/name_u] is traditionally more of a Jewish name, but my thoughts are that it is still good to use even though we aren’t Jewish…am I right?
Also, our daughters name is [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f].
Well, [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] can work if your husband is Greek. However, it is a huge name indeed, and what if your kid turns out to be not a big of scientist? My biggest point is that a really unusual and kind of flamboyant (in a good way) name attracts attention, and the bearer needs certain traits to pull it off.
To conclude, I’d say that I find [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] really handsome and strong. If you are sure it will fit your child’s personality, go with it. [name_u]Ari[/name_u] is a friendly, cute nickname that also works for [name_u]Ariel[/name_u].
I love the idea of a little boy named [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m]! The nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u] is really cute, and it works perfectly. [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] is definitely a heavy name, so I’m not sure I’d ever personally be brave enough to use it, but you also have legitimate claim to it because of your SO’s Greek heritage, imo.
I think [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] is awesome, especially with the nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] or [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] are both really cool and dashing names. I might steal [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] for my list.
Also, I don’t think being Jewish, or Greek, should make much of a difference. [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m] was a person, not a religious figure, and [name_u]Ari[/name_u] (as in [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]) is a well-known, widely used name, not exclusive to any one group.
[name_m]WAY[/name_m] too much to live up to in my opinion. Like naming your kid Einstein, it’s just pretentious I think to give a name with so much association with extreme intelligence. What if he’s not academically strong, what if he actually ends up struggling at school? His name would seem like a cruel joke.
Disclaimer: In an English-speaking country. If you actually live in Greece it would of course be a different matter.
I’m Greek and I know of someone named [name_m]Aristotle[/name_m]. I think it is super cute in an almost hippster/nerdy way. I think it is totally awesome. I see it as more of a GP since I would never use it, but I’d love to see it on someone else’s kid. It is a lot of name, but no bigger than [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] or [name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m] or [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] are. I think it is usable.
