thoughts on Astoria

A friend of a friend had a girl named [name]Astoria[/name] nn Stori mn J@yne. Wdyt?

I am not a fan. Especially of the Y thrown in there with [name]Jane[/name] which drags down a lovely & simple classic imo. [name]Astoria[/name] is nms either. Place names aren’t my thing & ones that try to sound hip/urban are at the bottom of the list for me.

I love it, though I wouldn’t use it unless I was from there or had a special connection to the place. [name]Jayne[/name] is actually a pretty common misspelling of [name]Jane[/name], so I’m pretty used to it. I’d say she did pretty well - it could have been something like Astarriah Jaynee

I’ve always liked [name]Astoria[/name] because of Waldorf [name]Astoria[/name] Cake (aka [name]Red[/name] [name]Velvet[/name]). Hate [name]Story[/name]/Stori.

[name]Jane[/name] is pretty dull to me but [name]Jayne[/name] has some Hollywood sparkle due to [name]Jayne[/name] [name]Mansfield[/name]

[name]Astoria[/name]… It sounds so fairytale exotic, so verdant… I can tell you that [name]Astoria[/name] is really not what it promises to be. I would never in a bazillion years name my kid [name]Astoria[/name] (being from [name]Brooklyn[/name]) but I think the world needs more people with zany names. So I vote in favor of it, especially since she’s already been named! More power to her.

Haha, I grew up in [name]Astoria[/name], Queens (NYC) so I could never imagine using it as a given name. But I guess without that strong connection it’s usable. It’s interesting, at least. Kind of pretty. Definitely a strong and memorable name. The nickname is cute but I’d like it better spelled [name]Story[/name].

I love [name]Jane[/name] as a middle name.

[name]Astoria[/name] sounds pretty but has a negative association for me. I met a guy from there and he seemed nice until I found out he was a registered sex offender. However, if I was from there but living somewhere else, I could see using it. Not sure how I feel about Stori though.

[name]Jayne[/name] spelled as such doesn’t seem as feminine to me as [name]Jane[/name]. This is very likely because the first connection my mind makes is to [name]Jayne[/name] [name]Cobb[/name] from Firefly. I do realize, though, that most people are not nerds like me and their first thought regarding that name would not be a man. Still, with an unusual first name I would have preferred to see more of a balance by using the simpler, more traditional [name]Jane[/name].

I really like it, but being Australian I have no associations between [name]Astoria[/name] and the place or any people who live/have lived there.

I love reading and writing, so I think [name]Story[/name] (or Stori in this case) is cute. I also have a cousin with the nickname [name]Tori[/name], so Stori isn’t much of a stretch for me. I have no problems with the [name]Jayne[/name] spelling either, but I might have left it as [name]Jane[/name] to balance out [name]Astoria[/name] a little better.

I’ve never been to [name]Astoria[/name] so I don’t have any associations with the place itself, but as a name I think it sounds fanciful and kind of Fairytale ish and honestly a lot more girly to me than [name]Brooklyn[/name]. and I might be in the minority here but I think [name]Story[/name] is a cute nickname (then again I’ve always had a soft spot for word names)

I lived in [name]Astoria[/name] Queens for a decade. So I couldn’t use it.
