[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
[name_f]Athalie[/name_f] (At-uh-lee) is a name that used to be strictly GP for me, but I’m beginning to really love it.
I am aware, it’s like [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] / [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] without the N, but I’m not a massive fan of the nickname [name_u]Nat[/name_u], at least not enough to use the name.
I like [name_f]Nell[/name_f] / [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] for [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] / [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f], but I think people would default to [name_u]Nat[/name_u] which puts me off the name.
So hence, [name_f]Athalie[/name_f]. I do think [name_f]Addy[/name_f] would be a intuitive nickname for [name_f]Athalie[/name_f] though, but I’m not sure.
What do you guys think of [name_f]Athalie[/name_f]?
[name_u]Or[/name_u] do you think [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] / [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] would be better?
I’ve always really liked [name_f]Athalie[/name_f]! I think Addy/Atty would be an intuitive nickname. [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe [name_u]Tali[/name_u]? I think you could definitely use [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] here too.
I do think most people named Natalie/Nathalie/Natalia/etc get called [name_u]Nat[/name_u], at least occasionally. I also think that like most nicknames, it’s out of a parent’s hands once the child is old enough to decide what nickname they prefer. So I would say if you want to avoid [name_u]Nat[/name_u], [name_f]Athalie[/name_f] is probably a better choice than [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]. However, I do think Natalie/Nathalie is nice as well.
[name_f]Athalie[/name_f] is intriguing - however, I do think people might pronounce it as Ath-uh-lee if they’re unfamiliar. Still, I like it - it has an appealing rhythm and distinctive yet familiar feel
I’d say [name_f]Attie[/name_f] or [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] would be more intuitive than [name_f]Addy[/name_f] to me
[name_f]Athalie[/name_f] “Tilly” would be so sweet! I love it!
Thankfully the pronunciation issue would only be a one-off correction!
[name_f]Attie[/name_f] is sweet as well - I think I prefer it than [name_f]Addy[/name_f], but would probably morph to [name_f]Addy[/name_f] in a lot of accents.
I do intuitively read it as you do! Closer to ADD-uh-lee in my American accent.
I’d spell it [name_f]Adalie[/name_f] or Addalie maybe? [name_f]Adelie[/name_f]?
For the strong T sound, I like [name_f]Athalie[/name_f] or Attelie!
