We are Irish and have a little boy called [name_m]Cael[/name_m] and we’ve found out we’re having a girl, due [name_u]August[/name_u]. We’ve been looking at names and narrowed it down to two.
We like [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] (fee+a) and [name_f]Meara[/name_f] (meer+a) and the surname is McKenna.
We’d like to get some feedback from fellow users on what you think of the two names, what sounds better with the surname and goes well with the sibling name ‘[name_m]Cael[/name_m]’.
Many thanks in advance.

I like both a lot! I think I slightly prefer the name [name_f]Meara[/name_f], but I think [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] sounds better with you surname.

I think [name_f]Meara[/name_f] McKenna is cute! I tend to like alliteration when it flows well. But I think [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] is also sweet. Either one would work well with the surname and with [name_m]Cael[/name_m]. But I think I’m leaning ever so slightly toward [name_f]Meara[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite names is [name_f]Meara[/name_f], however I prefer [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] with your surname.
I feel differently from the above. Not only do I prefer [name_f]Meara[/name_f], I prefer it with your surname too.
[name_f]Meara[/name_f] McKenna sounds great and i really like the name. It looks good wirh [name_m]Cael[/name_m] too
Thanks @Kipperbo1 for replying. I like both too but it’s hard
We like [name_f]Meara[/name_f] because we feel it’s unique and not widely used whereas [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] has seen a massive spike in popularity this past 2-3 years here in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] so likelihood is that there would be lots of girls in her year group which would have the name. [name_f]My[/name_f] OH thinks [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] sounds better with the surname but I think people outside of [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] (and maybe some in it), might struggle with the pronunciation

Many thanks @elanorelle for taking the time to reply.
We’re of the same opinion that the alliteration of [name_f]Meara[/name_f] flows better with McKenna.
The middle name will be my mothers forename, which is [name_f]Norah[/name_f] so I’m not sure either [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] or [name_f]Meara[/name_f] flows that well with [name_f]Norah[/name_f] but it’ll not be referred to other than in the birth certificate.

Thanks @[name_f]Estrela[/name_f] for your response. [name_f]Meara[/name_f] means happy, joyful allegedly so this along with it not being a commonly used name makes me lean towards it but my OH prefers [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] as he thinks it goes better with the surname and sounds nicer with [name_m]Cael[/name_m].
Thank you @Hollyrow, I think [name_f]Meara[/name_f] is beautiful and goes better with the surname too. I think it’s going to be a battle of wills with the OH
Thanks @Greyblue, I appreciate your input and whilst I think either sounds nice with the surname, my concern with [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] is that people might struggle with the pronunciation more in addition to it’s recent popularity here in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]. I’d believe there could end up being 2/3 [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u]’s in her class when she eventually goes to school
I really like [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u]! I think it’s so sweet and not too common. I think [name_f]Meara[/name_f] is pretty too, but [name_f]Meara[/name_f] McKenna isn’t my style, because they’re both 2 syllables, start with M, and end in A, so I think theyre too similar. But I love [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u]! Had never heard of it before. I think it works well with [name_m]Cael[/name_m].
Thank you @Waverly123 for your comment. [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] is lovely but it has become so common in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] since 2018, a useful tool for anyone to use - Interactive Data Visualisations | CSO Ireland
I think that I’d know a few people that would agree with the two syallables but I think it flows well despite this. I’m still back and forth on the two names and will likely wait until she arrives and see what she looks like

I like both, they are beautiful names. If I had to pick, I’d pick [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u], just because I prefer the look of it. Either goes well with your surname and both go well with [name_m]Cael[/name_m]. Are you in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]? That would influence my decision, if you are anywhere else I would probably go with [name_f]Meara[/name_f] because of pronunciation issues with [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u].
[name_f]Welcome[/name_f] to Nameberry, @mckennanp!!
I love [name_u]Fiadh[/name_u] and [name_m]Cael[/name_m] together! They sound like a perfect sibset imo!
If you are worried about popularity go with [name_f]Meara[/name_f]. Both names are lovely and both go with [name_m]Cael[/name_m].
[name_f]Meara[/name_f] [name_f]Norah[/name_f] McKenna- gorgeous!
