Thoughts on Beatrix Bluebell and name alliteration more generally?!

Following from a previous thread I posted in search of a middle name for [name]Beatrix[/name]… led me to another question for you berries!!

Someone suggested [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name], bluebell being my ULTIMATE favourite guilty pleasure mn!! I had initially thought double ‘B’ alliteration in [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] was too much (I didnt want her name to sound like micky mouse, peter pan etc!!!)and so (reluctantly) decided to let it go as a combo. I’m reconsidering it again though and I have 2 questions

  1. [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name]: sweet and quirky combo or does it ring like a cartoon character?! Luckily our last name begins with ‘M’

  2. What are your thoughts on name alliteration in general?

I generally like alliteration (except for the unfortunate connotations of AA or PP). I think [name]Blue[/name] and [name]Bluebell[/name] actually often sound best with a B first name. I like a number of alliterated names, though they might not be everyone’s taste. My husband, for example, can’t believe I would alliterate even JJ which I thought was fairly common.

I love alliteration. I’m [name]Emily[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] myself

But. [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] I think is a bit clunky. [name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] or similar, isn’t. It’s not a deal breaker though - if you love it, use it!

I like alliteration in general…
…but my initials are “JJ” (dont have a middle name), and while I never got teased for my name alone, people do make (rude) comments about my initials. I think its better if the first/last or first/middle/last are not all alliterative.

  1. It does ring to mind a cartoon character, but middle names are pretty much free game. It’s rather cute, but that’s just it; she’ll be an adult someday, not just a baby/child forever. So you have to factor those things in.

  2. I like it. Especially A.A., my first girls combo is currently [name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Averie[/name] [name]Kate[/name], so she’ll have the A.A.

  1. i really can’t stand [name]Bluebell[/name], either as a fn or mn. It’s too reminiscient of cows and cartoons and just doesn’t seem to work well on a human being to me. [name]Beatrix[/name] is really nice though.

  2. i’m totally ok with alliteration. done right, it can make a beautiful, flowing name.

[name]Bluebell[/name] is a total guilty pleasure of mine. [name]Beatrix[/name] is so cool with that spunky x. I like them independantly and I don’t mind the two B’s in a row. I usually like alliteration. [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] is just a touch heavy on the B sounds for my ear though. You hit the nail on the head; it kind of sounds like a cartoon character. [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Blue[/name], [name]Betty[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bay[/name], or [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Belle[/name] all sound better to my ear. I do think [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] is super cool & I’d compliment you if we met and you introduced your daughter as [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name]. I personally would do something slightly different.

That being said I wanted to point out that you may want to avoid the initials BM. To me it reads as an acronym for bowel movement. Sorry if that is rude of me to say :frowning:

Good luck with your naming journey!

I think alliteration is great and can be especially charming for a little girl. Although I don’t particularly care for [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] is a very nice combo!

[name]Bluebell[/name] reminds me of the ice cream and sounds like the name of a Cow. I like [name]Beatrix[/name], but not bluebell.

I like alliterative names. I have one! My initials are KK (first and last) which I would caution you to also avoid since I constantly get asked if my middle initial is also K (it’s not). But [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] is quirky and sweet. It is a lot of Bs, but I like it! I say it’s fine.

[name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Bluebell[/name] are both very unique and interesting names but very different and don’t really complement each other and for that reason, not because of the alliteration, I think it’s a bit of an overwhelming name. I’d go for something simpler like [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Blue[/name] or [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Bella[/name].

I agree with Hatter said. I recognize though that [name]Bluebell[/name] is much more strongly associated with cows (it is an ice cream brand - with a singing cow mascot) in the US than the UK if you are writing from there.

In general I think alliteration can work in many cases - it certainly can be memorable. I adore [name]Beatrix[/name] but had ruled it out for first name status because it shares a lot of sound overlap with our last name, but figured it worked OK in the middle (with a totally different first - like [name]Lily[/name]). But now my husband has warmed up to [name]Beatrix[/name] and kind of finds the overlap with our last name memorable and positive - we’ll see!

Here are a few that work:
[name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Monroe[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] Garbot
[name]Lucy[/name] Liu

And I would think of more but am a little tired!

I actually like the idea of [name]Bellatrix[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] somehow the added alliteration of the L’s makes the clunkiness less clunky for me an more melodic. (I’m not a fan of the nn [name]Bella[/name] for it’s obvious Twilight connection but I think [name]Trixie[/name] is very cute and useable).

When the alliteration is fn/mn, if you like it, I say go for it. The fact is, most people aren’t even going to know, since you don’t tell everyone your middle name. My daughter’s fn/mn initials are A.A., and the only people who know that are family members.

I love [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Bluebell[/name] is nms, but I acually think it sounds cute together. And again, most people won’t know her middle name, if you’re worried about how it’s perceived, etc.

I think it’s sweet! I like alliteration in general, and [name]Bluebell[/name] is a GP of mine. Plus, the flowers are lovely!

I don’t really like [name]Bluebelle[/name], but I do love alliteration with the right names. It can sound very nice and distinguished. [name]Beatrix[/name] is an awesome name, and I would totally use it and [name]Bluebelle[/name] is very quirky. I do like it better in the middle spot since it is a name that may not be to everyone’s liking.

Our favourite [name]Bluebell[/name] combo is [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name], maybe you will like that too?

rollo

I love alliteration & I like [name]Beatrix[/name].
Personally I’m not a fan of [name]Bluebell[/name]; it sounds like a cow’s name to me, but on the other hand I think that mns are OK to be a bit frivolous.
