Thoughts on Bellamy?

I think it’s a darling name, and I like the nn [name_f]Bella[/name_f] / [name_f]Belle[/name_f] a lot… but Nameberry seems to think it’s on the up-and-up, and it’s so close to [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] that I’m not gonna lie I’m a little worried it will be the next [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]/[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] type of name. Thoughts?

I think [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] is lovely, but it’s certainly not as popular as the internet says. Statistically, only 183 girls were names [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] in 2015 - a ranking of #1297. I highly doubt it’ll reach the heights of [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] and [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], at least not any time soon.

I personally feel neutral about [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], and also [name_f]Bella[/name_f]/[name_f]Belle[/name_f]. In the US it has never reached above the 1,000 mark. And I cannot image it becoming too popular here.

Adding that there is only user-submitted information on Behind The Name. BTN is a great, reliable source for lots of information on names. With Bellamy not listed, there are no stats, and it is often a sign that the name is a created name. Unsure where you live but I personally would not be concerned of it growing too popular in other places, especially like Brittany and Tiffany stats in the US.

I think [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] is cute! I love the nick name [name_f]Belle[/name_f], too. I agree that you shouldn’t worry about the popularity–but what do I know, I named my son [name_u]Noah[/name_u] which is the most popular name for boys I think.

[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] is okay. I know someone with this as a surname and always thought that it would make a decent first name. I don’t personally see it becoming as popular or as “dated” as some would call [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] or [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], but I do see [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] becoming shortened to be just another [name_f]Bella[/name_f].

Thanks everyone!

I’m a big fan of [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], I think it lends a fresher image to the [name_f]Bella[/name_f] clan. It also flows well with a variety of middle names, and I think it’s nice to see a modern B name besides [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]. A+ for [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]!

I agree that [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] isn’t as popular as the internet says it is. It might rise slightly due to recent pop culture influences, but I don’t expect it to soar.

Personally, I prefer [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] on a boy.

I love [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. It’s a surname, but feels so light and fun to me.

I prefer [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] for a boy!
