Thoughts on Beren?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys, me & hubby are having a tough time nailing down a name for our little boy! We recently thought of the name ‘Beren’ ( pronounced ‘bear-in’ ) and we are both liking it a lot but I’m hoping for some opinions.
Background - it is a name of a major character in Tolkien’s Silmarillion. So,very nerdy, but not something I think most people would pick up on. We both like this as our love of Tolkien was one of the things that originally drew me and hubby together.
My biggest concern is that it sounds exactly like ‘baron’, and I don’t want people to confuse that or think we’re being stuck up giving him a noble title or something lol. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think this is an issue? [name_f]Deal[/name_f] breaker?
What do guys think of the name?

I’ve still been thinking about this one, the pronunciation I’m going for would actually be closer to ‘[name_m]Bear[/name_m]-wren’.
I also realized the name sounds very close to ‘[name_m]Barren[/name_m]’ which is also not great.
Any feedback on this name?

I think of barren. Unable to bare children.

I immediately thought of “barren” as well, and it seems like a depressing name.

I do like the sound, but mispronounced when I first read it (I thought it rhymed with [name_u]Seren[/name_u]) - I love the meaning behind it though, and after a correction the first time, I’m sure people would have no problem with spelling.

I don’t think it’s a deal breaker at all because it has such significance to you and your hubby. I understand why you wouldn’t want to use the spelling [name_m]Baron[/name_m] as it is pretentious sounding and especially being that [name_m]Donald[/name_m] Trump used it. Beren has a nice sound to it. And I think you are right that most people wouldn’t pick up on the Tolkein association, I know I didn’t, but it is a lovely story and when you tell people the background, I think they will really like it.
