Thoughts on Beverly Denise?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] All!!

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are LOCKED into an intense debate about the name [name_u]Beverly[/name_u]. We have two boys named [name_u]Wiley[/name_u] and [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and are getting our ducks in a row for our third child. Should she be a girl I love the name [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] [name_f]Denise[/name_f] (middle name is my moms and that is for sure staying).

Our naming vibe is “mildly dusty vintage” a name that is familiar but when you hear it you think “Huh, didn’t know people were still naming babies that”. Either nowhere near the top 1000 popular names or just on the outskirts. Our son [name_m]Clark[/name_m]’s name is about as popular as we are willing to go. I think the sibling names give off a 1920s vibe, or American Western, or even mid-century modern chic.

Also, since she would be our only girl I want a mildly frilly name with three syllables (1&2 syllables are too short and too much like the boys’ names, 4 syllables is WAY too many). I’ve always been attracted to “z” and “v” sounds in girls names. Our longest front runner was [name_f]Liza[/name_f] BUT now I want more syllables! [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is out because it’s WAY too popular.

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband thinks its not vintage at all but just awkwardly outdated. I would really like some honest reactions to the name and open to some suggestions! Thanks and I appreciate it!

I wouldn’t assume her to be a baby (not quite ready for a revival, imo) but I suppose it works if you love it  It gives me a 1940s-1950s feel, rather than 1920s.

I love your boys names! I quite like [name_u]Beverly[/name_u], but I’ll be honest in that I don’t love it. Though I could definitely see it grow on me if I met a baby/little girl called [name_u]Beverly[/name_u]! If this name feels like THE ONE, I think you should go for it!!! [name_f]My[/name_f] #1 girls name isn’t loved by most people but that’s not going to sway me.

Some suggestions based off of your boys names and the 20’s western vibe: (there are a few 2 syllables in here but they’re too cute not to mention)
[name_u]Wiley[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] & [name_f]Winona[/name_f]
[name_u]Wiley[/name_u] [name_m]Clark[/name_m] & [name_f]Judith[/name_f] (personal favorite)
[name_u]Wiley[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] & [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_u]Wiley[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] & [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]
[name_u]Wiley[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] & [name_f]Josette[/name_f]
[name_u]Wiley[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] & [name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_u]Wiley[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] & [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
(I’m not sure of all the rankings on these names but I’ve never heard of/met a baby with any of them. Some are more popular than others)
Congratulations and best of luck to you both! :orange_heart:

I love an unexpected baby name, but find the sound of [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] a bit…not so pretty. I know a twelve year old [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] and am still not used to her name, years after meeting her. It’s far from terrible, but maybe there’s something better out there, something your husband might like more?

Absolutely LOVE [name_f]Winona[/name_f] and it would be in the running but my girlfriend I’ve know since high school has claimed it for her future daughter so I can’t use it unfortunately :pensive:.

Ivette!:heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes: We also have [name_f]Izetta[/name_f] and [name_f]Lizette[/name_f] on the list of considerations. [name_m]Will[/name_m] add this one too!

personally i wouldn’t use them both together as they both have a little bit of a ‘not quite ready for a revival’ feel in my opinion. Although i admit it would be refreshing to meet a little beverly or denise in a sea of ava’s and olivia’s! I feel like the two together are a little bit heavy/dated. But that’s just my opinion, sound-wise i think they flow nicely together!

I love [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] and with all the little [name_u]Everly[/name_u]’s out there I think even though it’s dusty it’s not too out there. Paired with [name_f]Denise[/name_f] I do feel dates it even more, personally I would go with a more modern middle, however you don’t often use your middle so I don’t think that’s too big of a deal.

I love [name_u]Beverly[/name_u]. It’s soft and slightly dusty but cute.

Beverly seems ready for revival to me. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is taking off… what’s so wrong with [name_f]Beverley[/name_f]? I think it’s a lovely name.

Maybe [name_f]Elissa[/name_f]? [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] seems quite dated, maybe a bit too dated. The combo is nice though!

Maybe [name_f]Vera[/name_f] or [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]?

What about [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabet[/name_f], or [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]?

With this as the combo Inwould have to say I agree with your husband. I don’t see 1920’s more like mid 80’s and all I picture is scrunchies and perms. If [name_f]Denise[/name_f] is staying I would maybe dare to pick a more familiar to today sounding first. [name_u]Or[/name_u] vice versa.

So, I love the name [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] and think it’s ready for a comeback (especially for boys), but it kind of misses the mark with 1920s, American [name_u]West[/name_u], or Mid-Century for me, if that’s what you’re going for. [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] is one of my grandmother’s names (born in 1942) and I do love it and [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] [name_f]Denise[/name_f] is a great combo. However, it would bother me to have both [name_u]Wiley[/name_u] and [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] with LY endings. That’s probably just me.

Some alternatives to consider:

1920s
[name_m]Brucie[/name_m] - I know, not three syllables, but it was the first to pop into my head (fits all three of your themes in my opinion). But also doesn’t flow well with [name_f]Denise[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] - [name_u]Wiley[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] sound great together! [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Denise[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]
[name_m]Lowell[/name_m]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]
[name_f]Muriel[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_f]Pamela[/name_f]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]

American [name_u]West[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] - also works for 1920s and Mid-Century too ([name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Denise[/name_f] is cute)
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - probably too popular, how about [name_u]Abilene[/name_u]?
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
[name_f]Eudora[/name_f]
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]

Mid-Century
[name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marilyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f]
[name_f]Melinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Margalo[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f]

Others with a [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] vibe, to me:
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]

[name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]
[name_f]Edita[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sharona[/name_f]
[name_f]Paulina[/name_f]
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Carlotta[/name_f]

V and Z names
[name_f]Elvira[/name_f] - love this for you (close to [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], goes great with [name_u]Wiley[/name_u] and [name_m]Clark[/name_m])

I love [name_u]Beverly[/name_u]! Friendly and feminine but not too frilly. I wouldn’t have a immediately thought that it was a 1920s name but it was in the US top 100 from the mid 20s to the mid 60s.

Maybe you like [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]?

I think [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] [name_f]Denise[/name_f] does seem a bit dated together, but I think it’s super cool!! I think [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] is a nicer sibling to [name_u]Everly[/name_u] names, and the name isn’t unheard of. Plus, you get an honor name in the middle spot.

I think some people might not like it at first, but it can definitely grow on them (it did for me)
