Thoughts on Billie and Bobbie

I like the idea of [name]Billie[/name] and [name]Bobbie[/name] but I’m not a fan of [name]Wilhelmina[/name] or [name]Roberta[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think these names can stand alone as a full name on a girl?

Cannnnn they? I suppose so. But only insofar as I think any name can be used on its own. That said, I really don’t care for either one on their own. They both have a dated or hillbilly sound to me (as in, I can see this name on older women or young, redneck women…). Neither feels as naturally stand-alone as [name]Hattie[/name] or [name]Sadie[/name] [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t mean to be disapproving, though; it’s all subjective.

I love [name]Billie[/name] because of [name]Billie[/name] [name]Piper[/name]. I think she was born [name]Lianne[/name] or something though. I think it’s pretty usable on it’s own, but if you wanted something longer, other than [name]Wilhelmina[/name] (I want to like this, but it’s too fussy for me) what about a -belle name? Could that work? [name]Annabelle[/name] nn [name]Billie[/name]? [name]Isabel[/name] nn [name]Billie[/name]? Or what about [name]Sybil[/name]/[name]Sibyl[/name]/[name]Sibella[/name]/[name]Sybilla[/name] nn [name]Billie[/name]? All would work in my opinion. And then there is [name]Belinda[/name]… [name]Abigail[/name] might also work?

There is also [name]Willa[/name] or [name]Wilma[/name] ? But I suppose that’s too much of a stretch ([name]Willow[/name] is definitely too much)?

[name]Bobbie[/name] isn’t my thing at all. It’s not as sweet as [name]Billie[/name] and would be labelled as very ‘chavy’ in my area (then again, so would [name]Billie[/name] probably).
As for a longer version, what about - [name]Elizabeth[/name]? [name]Robyn[/name]?

Ehhh. I wouldn’t use either [name]Billie[/name] or [name]Bobbie[/name]. For me I think of backwards country girls or trashy city girls.

I had a friend growing up named [name]Billie[/name]. She was really sweet and fun- and that’s how I see [name]Billie[/name]. [name]Bobbie[/name] is much more country to me.

They can, but I’m not fond of them as full names

[name]Bobbie[/name] can also be a nickname for [name]Barbara[/name].

Although it’s not my preference, I see the appeal. Growing up in [name]Texas[/name], I knew Billies and Bobbies-- but usually as part of a 2-name first-- think [name]Billie[/name] [name]Jean[/name], [name]Billie[/name] [name]May[/name], [name]Bobbie[/name] [name]Jo[/name], [name]Bobbie[/name] [name]Sue[/name], [name]Bobbie[/name] [name]Fay[/name], [name]Billie[/name] [name]Rae[/name], [name]Billie[/name] [name]Mae[/name], etc. I had a doll called [name]Billie[/name] [name]Sarah[/name].

I like the suggestions above for [name]Billie[/name]-- [name]Belinda[/name], [name]Sybil[/name], [name]Sybilla[/name], or [name]Willa[/name]. For [name]Bobbie[/name]-- [name]Robin[/name], [name]Robinette[/name]/Robinetta are the only other suggestions that come to mind.

I really like [name]Billie[/name].

I’d use it for [name]Willa[/name], Biljana, Bilha, [name]Sybil[/name], [name]Sybilla[/name]? Biljana has a y-sound j in it, btw.

I don’t really like [name]Bobbie[/name]. But if pushed I’d use it for [name]Robin[/name], not [name]Roberta[/name]. [name]Robin[/name] is marginally more appealing.

I’ve pondered using [name]Billie[/name] as a namesake for aunts [name]Bertha[/name] and [name]Bella[/name] (I don’t mind [name]Bella[/name] itself but that wouldn’t feel “shared” iykwim). [name]Bella[/name] was really a [name]Baila[/name] - my sister says [name]Bailey[/name] would be more natural than [name]Billie[/name], which may be true, but I don’t like [name]Bailey[/name].

Oh man, I totally just posted a thread asking this same thing–literally, asking about the same exact two names–a few weeks ago and you can see the thread here: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums. I love both names! I prefer [name]Bobbi[/name] slightly, I think, but my husband likes [name]Billie[/name]. I like the combo [name]Billie[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name], and would likely always call her by both names or just “[name]Billie[/name] [name]Bea[/name].” Turns out a celebrity couple has a [name]Billie[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name], which I was not aware of, but you can Google her name and see pictures. I [name]LOVE[/name] the names on their own, and hope you use one!

Dislike on boys, despise it on girls.

[name]Bobbie[/name] could be a nickname for [name]Robin[/name] or [name]Barbara[/name].

[name]Billie[/name] could be a nickname for [name]Sybil[/name], [name]Jubilee[/name], or [name]Abilene[/name].

That’s so funny because I loved the idea of billie [name]Bea[/name] too even before I heard of billie [name]Beatrice[/name] because I always wanted that as my child’s middle name as my mom used to call me bee when I was young!
