Thoughts on Clayton

Looking for thoughts on [name_m]Clayton[/name_m] - pros and cons?

I’d just go with [name_m]Clay[/name_m]. [name_m]Clayton[/name_m] sounds . . . stuck-up? Preppy? [name_m]Rich[/name_m] kid? Or maybe the opposite–red neck?? Or maybe, and this is probably it, [name_m]Clayton[/name_m] just isn’t my style. However, [name_m]Clay[/name_m] is an awesome name.

[name_m]Clayton[/name_m] is a handsome name! It used to be a name that I didn’t like at all but a friend’s husband changed that for me. He’s a totally awesome guy so it made the name grow on me. I really don’t like [name_m]Clay[/name_m] though!

[name_f]My[/name_f] [name_m]BIL[/name_m] is a [name_m]Clayton[/name_m] who goes by [name_m]Clay[/name_m] and I know a 7 month old that is [name_m]Clayton[/name_m].
I love both [name_m]Clay[/name_m] and [name_m]Clayton[/name_m]. I don’t see it as stuck up, in fact it seems pretty laid back and relaxed to me. [name_m]Clay[/name_m] seems especially approachable.

I like [name_m]Clayton[/name_m] because I had a friend in high school whose name was [name_m]Clayton[/name_m], and it has a nice, relaxed feel to me. I also really like [name_m]Clay[/name_m].

[name_m]Clayton[/name_m] reminds me of a Southern gentleman, I think it’s a handsome name. [name_m]Clay[/name_m] is a fun nickname.

I don’t like [name_m]Clayton[/name_m] at all, I view it as an old mans name.

I agree with this.

I like the name [name_m]Clayton[/name_m], and have known a few. One is in his 50s and one is early 20s. Can definitely see it on a baby/small child though, as well as an adult. One thought. Used to go to soccer games and cheer for a [name_m]Clayton[/name_m] and he went by [name_m]Clayton[/name_m], not [name_m]Clay[/name_m]. The way we pronounce [name_m]Clayton[/name_m], without real enunciation or emphasis on the ton part of it, almost like Clayt’n, makes it a hard name to cheer for and yell really loudly. I always thought this then, so if you aren’t going to shorten to [name_m]Clay[/name_m] at times, might be an issue.

I can’t say I’m a fan, I’ve known two Claytons and they were both those horrid feral teenagers who were always smoking and hooning around the streets in their cars.
I much prefer [name_m]Clay[/name_m] by itself; it makes me think of an American cowboy.

I adore [name_m]Clayton[/name_m]! It is manly, not common but familiar, and I love [name_m]Clay[/name_m] as well!

I agree with PP. I love it!

[name_m]Clayton[/name_m] has an old, southern vibe. I like it. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought is the song ‘The year [name_m]Clayton[/name_m] [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] died.’ I doubt anyone else here has even heard it though, so that doesn’t matter much.

Isn’t that the villain in [name_m]Tarzan[/name_m]? That’s probably not the be-all-end-all for the name, but like [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], it’s the only association I have, so it diminishes my view of it.

Aside from that, it has this weird mix of the trendy -dan/-ton ending ([name_u]Aidan[/name_u], [name_u]Leighton[/name_u], etc.) and the “dad name” [name_m]Clay[/name_m], neither of which are very appealing to me.
