I am not sure how to say this but I think a child named [name_m]Clovis[/name_m] would be horribly teased. But if you are super into it, maybe try it as a middle name?
[name_m]Clovis[/name_m] is kind of an old hick name. I’d imagine his siblings to be [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] and [name_f]Beulah[/name_f], not [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f].
[name_m]Clovis[/name_m] next to [name_f]Olive[/name_f] sounds like they belong on a pantry shelf and aren’t siblings! (Cloves, anyone?)
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t get me wrong, I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f], but one food reminiscent name is enough, otherwise you get the pantry-theme going and the beauty of the name sort of tarnishes. (Sort of like how [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] is cute, but [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] and [name_f]Cinnamon[/name_f] is too much or [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f].)
I disagree with pp that a [name_m]Clovis[/name_m] would receive horrible teasing, and I definitely disagree that it is “an old hick name” which is rude and terrible on several levels, but I do unfortunately agree that [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_m]Clovis[/name_m] are both food reminiscent and also share most of the same letters
[name_u]Love[/name_u] hearing all these opinions! I’m not sure how I feel about the name. Honestly, when a lot of people aren’t sure they like the name is often when I tend to be more attracted to it.
I can’t think of ways it would be made fun of…?
To the poster who said something about it being similar to [name_m]Elmer[/name_m], that’s really funny! I actually really like the name [name_m]Elmer[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] ([name_u]Elm[/name_u]) and [name_m]Clovis[/name_m] ([name_u]Clove[/name_u]) would be cute brother names.
We won’t be using [name_m]Clovis[/name_m], but I still find something appealing about it.
I think [name_m]Clovis[/name_m] is still a tad bit too dusty & rusty. Not sure it’s ready for a comeback yet. And with [name_m]Abel[/name_m] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f], it sticks out quite a bit.
[name_m]Clovis[/name_m]. Too clovery for me. Also sounds a lot like [name_m]Otis[/name_m], which will perpetually be in my mind an old bald man with gigantic ears.
I like [name_m]Clovis[/name_m]. It sounds distinctive. I associate with the historical Frankish king. I’ve never met or heard of anyone else called [name_m]Clovis[/name_m], so it strikes me as a historical name. I don’t think it was ever commonly used here in Britain.
I’m curious about what the teasing potential is in the US. Can someone explain it to me?
