[name_f]My[/name_f] DH has determined our next girl should be [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cosy[/name_f]. I like it, but I don’t feel settled yet. No name has felt like “it” to me at this point.
Siblings are [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Tolkien[/name_m] (Teddy) and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] (Lucy).
When you hear [name_f]Cosette[/name_f], do you only think of [name_f]Les[/name_f] Mis? We like the movie but are not necessarily naming her because of the movie. Generally, we have preferred to stick to a more “normal” first name and a “little out there” middle name. I feel like [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] is the opposite. Anyways, what are your thoughts?

I like [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]! Gentle and sweet but with a sort of zippy sound. I do think of [name_f]Les[/name_f] Mis when I hear it but might assume someone took inspiration from that, but didn’t necessarily name her after the character?
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] is more unusual than T and L’s names but it’s not entirely unheard of thanks to the musical. I think it works well with T and L too!
I would however throw in the idea of nickname “Etta” over [name_f]Cosy[/name_f], to ground it maybe?
In full honesty, it’s really not my thing! [name_f]My[/name_f] one and only association is [name_f]Les[/name_f] Mis, and it bothers me that it’s not really used as a name in [name_f]France[/name_f]. From what I understand, it’s more like an endearment (honey, sweetie, pet, etc.) and has only ever been considered a name due to [name_f]Les[/name_f] Mis. That said, I don’t actually find it that “out there” in terms of sound. I much prefer [name_f]Colette[/name_f], which feels similar but doesn’t have the associations. Sorry, I hope my opinion doesn’t ruin it for you too much!

I adore [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]! One of my recent favorites. So fun and playful. I do immediately think of [name_f]Les[/name_f] Mis as this is where the name originated from, but that is not the reason why I love the name and I personally don’t think the name is a “one person/character name” by any sorts. I’d love to meet a real [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]!

I have a work friend whose newborn daughter has this exact name but with a slightly different spelling 
im not super familiar with les mis, although I know the reference. I think it’s a sweet name! I know another little girl named C0sy and it suits her really well! I also think [name_f]Cosy[/name_f] goes beautifully with older sibs’ names

I like [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] a lot but don’t think I could use it personally…. I love [name_f]Les[/name_f] Mis (the book), and [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] is super lovely, but a very good friend of mine had been [name_m]French[/name_m] and I just hear her voice in my head pop-pooing it… it’s seen as quite childish in [name_f]France[/name_f], would’ve only been used as a nn there. But I would love to see someone else use it! And [name_f]Cosy[/name_f] or [name_f]Coco[/name_f] are adorable.
I especially love her with Teddy’s middle being [name_m]Tolkien[/name_m]! But if you’re not convinced, I what about [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]? Doesn’t have the ties to [name_f]Les[/name_f] Mis but still has the cute nn options, and you could maybe do something like [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and nn her [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] sometimes? That wouldn’t give you [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] but maybe you could do [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]? [name_m]Or[/name_m] maybe even [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]?

I do think or [name_f]Les[/name_f] Miserables right away, but I think that’s just because that’s how I first heard about the name. I think it is such a soft, feminine, elegant choice! I would die to meet a little [name_f]Cosette[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] but slightly prefer [name_f]Colette[/name_f].

I don’t only think of les mis, I also think cassette, and while that’s not the worst thing a name can sound like it would bother me that in my accent and with the unfamiliarity of the name here people could think I’ve named my child cassette.
You clearly aren’t enamoured so I’d defs keep looking.
Since the name was invented for [name_f]Les[/name_f] Mis, yes, I would assume the parents named her after the book or the musical. Especially since it’s not regularly used anywhere in the world.
[name_f]Cosy[/name_f] does not feel like a nickname that would age well, but [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] “Etta” would be cute, and would compliment the vintage Theodore/Teddy and Lucille/Lucy.

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] is very pretty! And I love the NN [name_f]Cosy[/name_f]! She pairs perfectly with brother and sister’s names!
I think it goes really well with your set, and repeats the double letter of [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] - there’s some real overlap in those names, and they complement each other stylistically.
Take or leave though, I don’t love [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] or [name_f]Colette[/name_f] for that matter. I heard [name_f]Cosmina[/name_f] on here the other day which I like - prefer to [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]. None too out there for me, I just don’t warm to [name_m]Cos[/name_m] or Col starting names.
For similar, would be going for [name_f]Constance[/name_f] nn Cosy/Coco/Tansy.

Have you considered [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]? It’s Cosette-adjacent without the [name_f]Les[/name_f] Mis reference, and I think it’s very lovely.
I think [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] is incredibly pretty, but I’ve also heard [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] is not a name in [name_f]France[/name_f]. It’s apparently used in that way ‘Don’t be such a Cosette’ meaning ‘Don’t be such a whiny complainer’ or ‘Cosette’ - ‘You poor you’. However, for example [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] is a made up name and it’s very much a used name. [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] and [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] are used names etc etc. I think 99% of people wouldn’t associate it with anything, I say that as a [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] (Goethe’s Faust). Apparently it’s not a popular name in [name_m]Germany[/name_m] since it’s nicknamey and people associate it with ‘being naive’. The first time I heard of Gretchen’s tragic character was at school and I was dosing off at a literature class 
The teacher stood above me and read a paragraph from [name_m]Faust[/name_m] and then said ‘ And our own [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] is sleeping here. Wakey-wakey’ I really love Cosette… Maybe you could put it as a mn?

This has been said above a few times, but as [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] is not used as a name in France/French-speaking countries, I would go with [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] or [name_f]Colette[/name_f].
