So I finally saw the movie “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” and couldn’t help noticing Credence’s name. I rather liked it, despite the unsavory nature of the character. Kind of like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], it’s a virtue name, but the word isn’t in popular use (a la [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] or something like that) to made it awkward. Credence and Gallant would make a great fictional sibset
I sort of see appeal in it (after all, I sort of like the name [name_m]Creed[/name_m]). However, a huge thing that I do not like about Credence is just how tied to pop-culture it is and that is just sad to me. I can see it becoming a trend…too tied to one thing. I see it suffering the same fate as [name_f]Hermione[/name_f].
I think it would work for a middle name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Creed[/name_m] from The Office, [name_m]Creed[/name_m] the band, Creedence Clearwater Revival. Mostly just sounds cheesy.
I kind of like it. I think that if you’re worried that it’ll be too tied to the character maybe use the nn [name_m]Creed[/name_m] or use Credence as a middle name.
I don’t mind the strong [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association. [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is one of my top names and if I had enough girls I would totally use it. Tried to talk my fiance into [name_m]Harry[/name_m] but that was a no go. There’s something about the name itself I find unsavory which is strange because its meaning isn’t bad. Maybe it’s just that it feels overly religious in a bad way (like the mom in Fantastic Beasts.) I think it would be a fine middle name because the cadence of it is pretty. I wouldn’t use it in a piece of literature due to its association.
To be honest, even without the character in Fantastic Beasts, I sort of feel like the name has a kind of sinister undertone. It’s a great name for a character but I don’t know how well it would work on a real person.
I’m not the biggest fan of the name Credence, but I absolutely LOVED [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_m]Miller[/name_m] as Credence in FB. I’m not really sure why I don’t like the name, seeing as the very similar-sounding girl’s name [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] is one of my favorites.
Inside information: No, he’s not dead. He’s very much going to be a part of Fantastic Beasts 2, and it’s going to be even more fantastic than the first movie.
I haven’t seen Fantastic Beasts, but like others have the band [name_m]Creed[/name_m] and Creedence Clearwater Revival in my head when I see it. For that reason, using it on a fictional character may be fine, but I wouldn’t use it on a child.
