I’ve always liked this name but was worried about the [name]Don[/name]/[name]Donnie[/name] nn’s
Discovered the nn [name]Van[/name] recently though, and I love it! Still would use the full name a lot, but I think nn [name]Van[/name] would steer away from [name]Don[/name], yeah?
[name]Donovan[/name] [name]Harris[/name]? Any other mn suggestions?
Does this name have a bit of a classic feel as well as modern? My girls have old fashioned, not nicknamey, not too popular, but on trend types of names. My ds has a strong classic name.
I love [name]Donovan[/name] nn [name]Van[/name]. It’s Irish, rare and has a wonderful musical association. I like its meaning of “little dark one”. Because it’s a surname, I wouldn’t use another surname in the middle spot. [name]Donovan[/name] needs a strong, traditional classic middle name (one or two syllables).
I adore [name]Donovan[/name], especially with nn [name]Van[/name]. I agree with mischa about not using another surname in the middle spot. Otherwise, your son might feel like he had 3 surnames! [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Harris[/name] is handsome, though, so if you love it, use it!
I second mischa’s suggestions of [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] and [name]Donovan[/name] [name]James[/name].
Thanks girls, glad to see positive responses…I know what you mean about two sir names :/. H is the only letter that has meaning so was thinking [name]Harris[/name], [name]Henry[/name] (too much N?), or [name]Hugo[/name] (but don’t love it) as mn’s. might have other meaningful names but will have to think on it. Does [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Henry[/name] sound ok? We don’t have any N sounds in our last name. [name]Glad[/name] u guys like the nn [name]Van[/name] as well!
I love [name]Donovan[/name]! I would expect it to be a huge hit in the area, since I live in Eagles territory, and [name]Donovan[/name] McNabb and all. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I like [name]Donny[/name] MUCH better than [name]Van[/name]–I don’t see the appeal in [name]Van[/name] at all, sorry. I do like [name]Evan[/name] and [name]Vaughn[/name], though. I really like [name]Donovan[/name] with your other three kiddos, too.
[name]Donovan[/name] [name]Harris[/name] is lovely–I think I prefer [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] or [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Henry[/name], though.
Thanks! Ok so I think [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Henry[/name] might be the way to go then. [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Harris[/name] has a nice flow but to last names together aren’t ideal. [name]Glad[/name] most like [name]Van[/name] as the nn too. [name]Ash[/name]- I think I dislike don so much because I have some bad associations maybe? Not sure, hmmm, but glad to hear you like this name with my other three kiddies.
haha, I used to hate [name]Donny[/name], but then I saw the show Numb3rs. Have you seen it? It was canceled several years ago, but it was based on two brothers–[name]Donald[/name] “[name]Donny[/name]” and [name]Charles[/name] “[name]Charlie[/name]”. [name]Charlie[/name] was like this genius math professor, sort of a recluse, but still really lovable and cute. [name]Donny[/name] was kinda buff and manly and was the FBI agent, but he had a really great heart and always protected his brother, and really cared about justice and having good win. I think he was played by [name]Rob[/name] Morrow (maybe known more famously for having a daughter named “[name]Tu[/name] Morrow”. shudder)? Still, the series was really good (what I saw of it–I only saw about half the series), and you might just like [name]Donny[/name], too, if you saw it. Maybe not. Not that it matters. I think that’s what really made me love [name]Donovan[/name], too. Because [name]Donald[/name] is a wee bit hard to get behind, haha.
When I read this, I smiled, haha. I love the name [name]Donovan[/name]. It’s actually the name of my six year old cousin. My aunt loved the nickname [name]Van[/name] too, she’s a little bit hipster. But now that [name]Donovan[/name] is in school, everyone calls him [name]Donnie[/name] and NO [name]ONE[/name] calls him [name]Van[/name]. I thought they would since his little brother is [name]Beau[/name] and [name]Beau[/name] and [name]Van[/name] are both one syllable names, but no. They’re [name]Donnie[/name] and [name]Beau[/name].
For some reason I think people are more prone to using nicknames based on the first syllable of a name rather than any other. I’m not sure why. And sometimes you don’t really get to pick your kid’s nickname, most of the time it just… Happens when they start school.
I love [name]Donovan[/name]! I have a favorite combo with [name]Donovan[/name] as a middle name, listed under my siggy. I think [name]Henry[/name] [name]Donovan[/name] might be a great combo for you.
I like [name]Henry[/name] a lot but prefer it as a mn for me. I think I might stick with [name]Sebastian[/name] as my boy name for now and I say “my boy name” because that would be the only name on my list! Lol. I like [name]Milo[/name] too so maybe those two for now? Two boy names and two girls names…not bad
When I saw the post, my initial reaction was that I do not like [name]Donovan[/name]. I certainly don’t like the nn [name]Don[/name] it [name]Donny[/name]. But [name]Van[/name], [name]Van[/name] I like.
I will say that [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] totally outshine it!! [name]Milo[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is really great. And [name]Sebastian[/name] is sophisticated and full.
