Lately I have been intrigued by double first names, especially [name_f]Marie[/name_f]- names. What is your opinion on these names? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think a double first name will make a child’s life difficult? Thanks
I think they’re fine, I don’t see a problem with them at all. [name_f]Marie[/name_f]- names are lovely. And no, I don’t think it’d make a child’s life difficult, unless it was something overly complicated/long like [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]-[name_f]Antoinette[/name_f].
As someone who has a double first name ([name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f]) I think it’s a lovely practice. It’s a good way to create a distinctive name without taking any creative liberties. One may find that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. As for difficulty, I personally have never encountered anything further than people asking which I prefer to be called or mistaking the second part as a middle.
I do not think a double first name would make a child’s life difficult. I personally prefer to not use a hyphen (or smoosh the names). For example my [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] would go by [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. I also have [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] on my list, she would go by [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] often. I have several others on my list.
I would think so. The second half is often automatically dropped by people and computers and it can be a hassle to ensure that both parts of the double name are used. Personally, I know of a girl who had a double barrelled name who went by the first half (think [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Lilly[/name_f]-[name_f]May[/name_f]) because the second half of her name was dropped when she was young and struggled with her name.
