Hello!
So, I was originally stoutly against double middle names. But now I’m thinking that (though everything is completely hypothetical right now) there are so many combos and names I love, and having two middle names could incorporate more, and some combos are really pretty with two middle names! [name_m]Just[/name_m] looking through the birth announcements, it’s always more exciting when someone is welcoming “[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Clio[/name_f]” than just “[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]”. (both of these were just random examples, not ones I’ve actually seen). But another thing may be that generally the type of namer that uses two middle names usually also uses more interesting names- well, from what I’ve noticed there are two main types of double middle names: [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Clio[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f]. Both of which are pretty, but I find the first much more interesting.
So what are your thoughts on double middle names? Would you use them? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like them?
Thanks!
I like them for other people, but not myself. In the past, I’ve tried them out ([name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] and [name_u]Maria[/name_u] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] were two of my double mn combos). Ultimately, they just didn’t feel right for me. I would feel like if I did double middles, they would all have to be that way, even for the boys (why are double middles so much more popular for girls, I wonder?)
I absolutely love double middle names! I’m planning on all of my kids having them;
[name_u]Dallas[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]
[name_m]Beckett[/name_m] [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] [name_f]Angelia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Melanie[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Michelle[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] or [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Justine[/name_f] (I haven’t been able to come up with a second middle name for her yet)
For me, I just love the fact that double middle names aren’t very popular right now haha
I used to like double middles for other people, and dislike them for my own list. I think it was more so because I was more familiar with names with one middle, and was only made aware two were a popular thing through using nameberry (I had known people with two middles, but had thought it was a rarer thing than it actually is!)
Lately though, I’ve been warming up to the idea of using two middles myself. I get to use more names I love that way, and I agree that a lot of the time double middles sound more exciting or beautiful. Currently I only have one name on my list with two middles: [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f]. I just love the way it sounds. I know it may be too colorful, but I enjoy having colorful names so I don’t mind!
I think I’m going to start playing around with double middle combos, and see which way I like more.
So my tldr feelings on them are, I love them for other people and are unsure about them for myself!
I think they are okay, but personally wouldn’t use one. I think they make the name look really long and I prefer just one, although some names look great with double middle names and I do like them on other people.
I love double middle names! In Finnish culture many people have two middle names. [name_f]My[/name_f] Finnish father and his brothers all have two, including my grandfather. So I totally for it and I would love to give my children two middle names.
It seems the culture you are raised in or the heritage you have has an impact on how you feel about not just middle names, but naming in general.
I love double middle names, I have one myself, and so does my sister. I think they’re perfect for squeezing in an extra honor name, or just another name you love, and they’re fantastic for rounding out combos that you love but didn’t quite flow beforehand. None of the combos in my user card have double middles though because whenever I end up getting married and having children, I want to use my maiden name as a second middle for all of my kids.
In my opinion double middles can sound more “important”? I don’t know how much having two will impact daily life really. Like others have said, they’re helpful in getting in those extra honor names but I just wonder how often someone actually uses their double middles. A friend of mine only uses her first middle name and not her second.
I have a double barreled last name so my kids would have five names to keep track of, which seems like a lot of extra work for Kindergarten haha
I like double middle names and i envy those who can make great three name combos!
I love double mns.
I myself have two middles and I love it. I couldn’t imagine just having one of them because all three names just have the best flow. [name_f]My[/name_f] siblings only have one middle name and it honestly isn’t a big deal. Sometimes you just have to have two middles to make a name sound complete.
They aren’t for me, just because I’m very into royalty and that’s their tradition. So, I feel like it’s reserved for them lol. Plus when you ask someone “What’s your middle name?” you don’t say “What are your middle names?”. Also, I’m not sure of the legality of that. I only have one middle name, so when I fill out forms etc. and they ask for middle initial I don’t have to worry. Overall, it makes more sense logistically to me to keep one. However, it’s a free country, do what you want!
@regionlatbest, [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] is gorgeous!
I have two, or more specifically a double-barreled middle. I love my name, and I thought we would use a double middle for a girl if we had one. Now I’m not sure. I try to create combos both ways.
I think in many ways this can be a trap. Sometimes less really is more and makes the chosen names feel much more special (we considered a double middle for my first (boy) but didn’t use it. I’m still very happy with our decision). But sometimes more is more and YOLO.
I agree about the announcements. A good double middle combo always makes me envious and spurs me to explore double middles again.
I don’t think I’ll be totally certain whether we will do one middle or two until our next babe (our last) is born and then I’ll be done done naming.
I gave my daughter two middle names and so far so good. We couldn’t decide on just one!
I really like double middle names, I wish we’d done a double for our first daughter, although I love her name I would have liked to include another name I love or an honour name.
Now I’m thinking about how many children we might actually have, it seems impossible to honour everyone and to use the names I love.
I never thought I would like two middle names, but recently they’ve really grown on me. I don’t think I would ever be brave enough to do two middle names, but I think it’s absolutely wonderful! [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] has a nicer ring than [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u], but I think I’ll stick with [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u] for baby girl coming in [name_f]September[/name_f]. You do you!
Love double middle names!
Honestly, most people in my circle of friends have either one or no middle names, so I’m just going off of what I’ve seen on the internet.
I like the names, especially when they round off a combo, but whenever I think of real life or a character, I tend to use one. I don’t think I’m brave enough to use one in real life, but it does sound good.
