Been crushing on this name on and off the past few months and i’d like your thoughts on it. Is it usable? Too out there? Also, which spelling do you prefer? I’m having trouble picking, both spellings are quite charming
I don’t mind either spelling. I think it would be hard to wear, ultimately. Perhaps [name_f]Elettra[/name_f], as a softer variation of the name? I always thought that was pretty, too.
I agree that the name will be ultimately hard to wear now that I think more about it. I suppose [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] would be an efficient nickname if [name_f]Electra[/name_f] is ever too much for her.
Oh, I like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]! Or just plain “[name_f]Elle[/name_f]” – it sounds classy and chic to me! I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Electra[/name_f] OR [name_f]Elektra[/name_f]. It reminds me of [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] [name_f]Electra[/name_f], whom I think is pretty trashy. :-/ Sorry!
If you do go with that name, though, I prefer the spelling “[name_f]Electra[/name_f]” for sure.
OK so I do like the sound of [name_f]Electra[/name_f]/[name_f]Elektra[/name_f] but not her story. I also do not like the electricity jokes or the association with [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] [name_f]Electra[/name_f]. I personally wouldn’t use this name & believe me I love unusual names!
I’d use [name_f]Elektra[/name_f] because that’s the original Greek, and I’d use it as a middle name for something more grounded that also seems antique, or another rare but wearable Greek name. This way [name_f]Elektra[/name_f] becomes more stylish and aristocratic sounding (it has the right amount of eccentricity you see in the names of some noble European families).
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Elektra[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Elektra[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Elektra[/name_f]
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] [name_f]Elektra[/name_f]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] [name_f]Elektra[/name_f]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Elektra[/name_f]
[name_f]Elettra[/name_f] is nice and I have it on my long list as a first in this combo: [name_f]Elettra[/name_f] [name_f]Christiane[/name_f]. My [name_m]French[/name_m] relatives pronounce [name_f]Elettra[/name_f] as AY-lettra which is quite pretty. It’s very beautiful in the middle spot.
[name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] [name_f]Elettra[/name_f]
[name_f]Raffaela[/name_f] [name_f]Elettra[/name_f]
[name_f]Luciana[/name_f] [name_f]Elettra[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Elettra[/name_f]
The spelling [name_f]Electra[/name_f] is too over-the-top, I think.
Too much. I like the above suggestions.
I actually really like [name_f]Electra[/name_f]/[name_f]Elektra[/name_f] (mostly because of the comic book character) and think that it’s usable, especially since it has much more toned down nickname options ([name_f]Elle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f]/[name_f]Elly[/name_f]).
Thanks for the input everyone! It is very much appreciated
I really like it, I think it’s beautiful. I like both spellings but lean towards [name_f]Elektra[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Electra[/name_f] is the nicer spelling as the K looks a little sticky-out in the middle. I’m not a fan of the name, it just looks like electric and all I can think of is [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] [name_f]Electra[/name_f]
This isn’t my favorite name- like others, it’s too strongly associated to [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] [name_f]Electra[/name_f] for me. BUT, I actually do like the K spelling as a middle name.
All I think of the [name_f]Electra[/name_f] complex, thanks to psychology classes I took in school. I don’t think it’s terrible, but it’s definitely not a forgotten connection. Considering what the [name_f]Electra[/name_f] complex entails - I’d avoid it.
