As some of you saw in one of my recent threads, i’m looking for a boy’s name to go with [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Nathaniel[/name] (early prep for future sibset) I got some great suggestions but most were also the names of friends, friends’ children or just NMS [name]One[/name] suggestion was [name]Elijah[/name] (name of someone I know’s son and reminds me too much of girl’s name [name]Eliza[/name]) BUT it got me thinking about it’s variations [name]Elias[/name] (also suggested) and [name]Elliot[/name]. [name]Elliot[/name] would work the best with all my crazy naming rules/schemes but there’s something about it that keeps me at a distance but i’m not sure what. It could be that it has slipped into unisex territory and all my go-to’s are pretty gender specific. Any thoughts? Best way to spell it? Can you make me love [name]Elliot[/name]?
Thank you in advance
I really like [name]Elliott[/name] (with that spelling) and there are plenty of legit ways to spell it. I think it’s handsome and spunky and could work equally well on a football player or a nerd or anything in between. I think it sounds perfect with [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Nathaniel[/name]! [name]Love[/name] it, great choice. It’s also mostly popular on boys, so I wouldn’t worry about it being “unisex”.
[name]Elliot[/name] is my absolute favorite name for a boy. I wouldn’t worry about it being “unisex” at all. In the 132 that the SSA has been keeping records, it has only charted in the Top 1000 for girls once. For boys, it’s been charting regularly and is on the rise. There are tons of modern-day bears in pop culture–[name]Elliot[/name] Stabler from SVU, [name]Eliot[/name] [name]Spencer[/name] from Leverage, [name]Elliott[/name] from ET, [name]Elliott[/name] Gould the actor, etc. While some girls might use the name (though, I can’t imagine why), it still remains a smart, masculine name.
@dantea I totally agree with all your insights and I also prefer the double T endling for [name]Elliott[/name]. It’s been growing on me and i’m strongly considering adding it to my permanent list thank you!
@frustratedauthor I really appreciate your stats and your examples of masculine Elliotts haha Other than the fact that the nickname [name]Ellie[/name] could be used I can’t imagine naming any girl [name]Elliott[/name]. Anyway, most likely adding it to my list, now onto the fun of finding a perfect middle name! Thanks!
