What are your thoughts on this?
Personally I still prefer the [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] spelling but I like the pronounciation with “lou”
I much prefer [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. I would pronounce them exactly the same way so I’m not sure how you’re pronouncing [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]?
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the name! I prefer the [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] spelling, and I never noticed the different pronunciations until now. I think I’ve said the name both ways, and they both sound great. So I think regardless of the spelling, people may just end up saying one or the other and not see the difference right away.
I’m [name_u]French[/name_u] Canadian so here it’s mainly pronounced Elle-oh-ees
which is why i like the El-lou-eez pronunciation
Thanks for your input! Both are definitely lovely and i think you’re right that it won’t be super noticeable
Oh I see OP. I’m in Australia and I’ve only ever heard [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] pronounced the same way that you pronounce [name_f]Elouise[/name_f].
I love the name [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], and prefer it with this spelling! You’ll find that most people pronounce them the same anyway.
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] 100%. I find [name_f]Elouise[/name_f] looks just like a typo, I don’t like how it looks at all. I pronounce them both the same.
I prefer [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] but [name_f]Elouise[/name_f] is pretty too
I prefer [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] as I always think [name_f]Elouise[/name_f] looks a little misunderstood! But I do pronounce them differently: eh-low-EEZ vs eh-loo-EEZ. So if it’s the latter pronunciation you’re going for, [name_f]Elouise[/name_f] feels like your best bet and is a very pretty name.
Maybe it’s just me, but I pronounce [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elouise[/name_f] the same? They’re both el-low-ees (or thereabouts) to me. I’d really have to try to say el-lou-ise and pronounce the lou clearly, it doesn’t come naturally that’s for sure.
Spelling wise the extra u looks a little unnecessary. So yeah, it’s not bad, but I do prefer [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
Thanks for all of your input!
@katinka This is exactly what I mean, although we say “ees” almost like [name_f]Anais[/name_f] in [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
And it is the latter pronunciation which i prefer but the classic [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] spelling is hard to let go of
@minxtruck I guess most people pronounce it both ways, but i’ve heard a distinct difference in canada
with El-low-ees and El-lou-eez.
That’s strange! The “lou” comes more naturally to me which is why i would add the “u” but i agree it does looks a bit unnecessary and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] itself is lovely
I guess If we pick [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] we’ll have the choice to pronounce it both ways, and be able include our french family as well
