Thoughts on Emily?

[name_f]Emily[/name_f], I’m ashamed to admit as it’s so last minute, is my newest crush. I would say [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is one of my all-time favorites, but I never thought I’d use it as it’s so popular.

I’m just so torn. I feel like I have a new name everyday and we are running out of time!

Anyway, thoughts of all kinds on [name_f]Emily[/name_f]?
In our defense, I haven’t met a little [name_f]Emily[/name_f] since a friend-of-a-friend had a baby back in our college days, though I think she spelled it Emmileigh.

We live in a trendy, up-and-coming (I guess you can call it “hipster”) neighborhood where every other child is [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], or [name_f]Isla[/name_f]–my son had two [name_f]Eve[/name_f]'s in his kindergarten class! Maybe [name_f]Emily[/name_f] will be stand out? Or is it just too popular?

Thanks!

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is a classic for a reaso, great name, flows well. It is common, but if you are okay with that, than that certainly is no reason to avoid.

I think it’s calming down a bit and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is such a beautiful name! I’m sorry, but I don’t really like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], will you consider other middle name suggestions? If so, I like:

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (it IS pretty…)

[name_f]Millie[/name_f] is adorable. You should definitely use [name_f]Emily[/name_f]! It’s wonderful <3

Hope I helped!

I like [name_f]Emily[/name_f]! It’s becoming less common but still known and people will always pronounce and say it correctly. Go for it!

We’re always open to new middle names, lol! I do like Emily Grace, but I feel like it’s too much of a generic combo, you know? LOVE Emily Mary-Alice, Emily Violet, and Emily Fleur! Thank you!

You’re very welcome

[name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s beautiful, what about combining your choices to [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]?

Some of my favourite [name_f]Emily[/name_f] combos:

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] (and [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f])
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f]/[name_f]Christiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]

I live in Australia, but here it’s the name of every second girl, little girls and teenagers. Also it sounds similar to [name_f]Emma[/name_f], which is even more popular. So to me it just seems a little boring, though still a lovely classic. It may not be popular in your area but she may move somewhere else as an adult, and find that every second woman her age is named [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
Not everyone cares about popularity though, plenty of people give their kids popular names, and I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] as a middle.

Was number one where I live for a long time.

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is a sweet name, just be aware there are lots and lots and lots of [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s, no matter where you live. If that doesn’t bother you, go for it. [name_f]My[/name_f] little sister once had six [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s in her class, and about 10 in her year, and I had 3 in my class, with about 7 in my year, but I think that is a regional thing: every second child seems to be named [name_f]Emily[/name_f] where I live. I’m pretty sure it isn’t as crazy for the rest of the world, or even the rest of Australia.

I don’t know if this is your style, but maybe:

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Gracia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Grazia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Grazielle[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Graca[/name_f] could be an alternative to [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], if [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is too generic for you. That way, your husband can still call her [name_f]Gracie[/name_f].

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] is stunning, in my opinion, but if you both love [name_f]Emily[/name_f], go for it. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a lovely combo, and I know an [name_f]Emily[/name_f] who goes solely by [name_f]Millie[/name_f] (you have to, in my town, or else you would be one of 20 [name_f]Emily[/name_f].K’s :)), which I think is lovely.

I also second @lawsonhaley’s suggestion of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f].

Sounds like you have a son who gets you to places where you hear kid names in your neighbourhood, so if you don’t hear Emily, you’re probably right that she won’t meet other Emilys too often or at least not 5 in every class. It is really area-specific.

Here in Vancouver it’s #4, but I only know of 2 whereas I know six Islas and 5 Ellas. I am in hipster-ville too

I like Emily Beatrix. Middle spots are for fun or meaning and bonus points if you can achieve both. I think Millie Bea is a sweet nn.

I like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f], and I actually love [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. That “[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]” gives a twist and a zing to the name.

I agree that [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is a regional phenomenon and if you’re in a place where you don’t hear it a lot then that means it isn’t in your area a lot.

I think you should go for it because

  1. you love the name [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
  2. it doesn’t seem to be overpopulating your area,
  3. her NN is going to be [name_f]Millie[/name_f] anyway
  4. she can fall back on [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], or [name_f]Bea[/name_f] if you relocate an area with too many Emmys/Emilys/Emmas

Lastly, it’s ok if you change your mind. Lots of my friends don’t know what the baby’s name is supposed to be until they meet the baby. Which makes sense to me. It’s ok if you wait till you hold her for a while before you really feel what her name should be!

Honestly…I think it’s way too popular. I wouldn’t be excited to hear of a new baby [name_f]Emily[/name_f], especially if her middle name was [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is better - and I do like the nickname [name_f]Millie[/name_f] - but I’d consider other options for a first.

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is one of my favourite names but it has never really had a place on my list. It is simple, classic and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] adds another dimension. If you are worried about the popularity, choose [name_f]Emeline[/name_f] or another variation.

I like [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. I only know one [name_f]Emily[/name_f] personally and she is 27 years old. I’d go with an adventurous middle name to spice it up a bit.

You don’t have to defend yourself! Using a popular name is not the heinous crime some make it out to be  Personally, I don’t think any name is “too” popular so I say go for it. [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s a wonderful classic and I’m always glad to meet one. And jeez, I’d be excited for a new baby whatever it’s called.

I’d be excited about any new baby born into my circle of family and friends, of course, but it meant I wouldn’t be excited about the name.

However, if you absolutely love [name_f]Emily[/name_f] more than any other name, then that should be your daughter’s name regardless of what anyone else thinks.

I have only recently come to love the sweet [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. I have known of maybe 5 of them, ever. I never, ever hear it now. I love [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as well. Go for the name you love!
