Ettel is a name I found on a “forgotten names” list somewhere in the Internet.
I really enjoy the sweet sound of it and I like that it’s similar to [name_f]Etta[/name_f].
Would potentially use the nickname [name_f]Ettie[/name_f].
It’s just so unknown that it creates doubts, is it too weird?
I shared it with a few friends and they were not impressed, where as my husband likes it.
Please give me any positive/negative feedback to help me decide if it’s usable or not.
Personally I prefer the name [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] if I was going for that sort of sound. I think [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] could easily have the nn [name_f]Ettie[/name_f].
It’s got a nice, off-beat feel about it though. Not one I’d use, but definitely a name I’d enjoy seeing on someone else!
I think Ettel is so adorable! I’m definitely more familiar with [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], which I am not really fond of, so I love Ettel! I think it is super cute. I don’t think it is too unfamiliar, as it has [name_f]Etta[/name_f] as an obvious nickname which is rather widespread. I think Ettel is wonderful!
Part of me likes it! It does remind me strongly of [name_f]Ethel[/name_f]…but I prefer Ettel or even just [name_f]Etta[/name_f]. The only other thing I have to say about it is that it does remind me of the word “nettle”, which is kind of a turn off for me.
Thanks for the feedback!
It’s an interesting one to consider! To me [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] doesn’t have the same charm but I also would find constantly correcting people tiring.
I think Ettel is wonderful. It sounds very European to me, but homespun at the same time. Makes me think of Danish butter cookies and butterfly conservatories, and quilting circles. Go for it! Your friends will warm up to it the more they hear the name, like a new song on the radio. Hubby likes it, you don’t have to please anyone else!
