I have wanted to name my baby [name]Evie[/name] for many years. We are expecting a baby girl next month and I have been questioning my choice. On our street there are 2 Olivias, 2 Avas, a [name]Liv[/name], an [name]Evelyn[/name], an [name]Emme[/name], and an [name]Eva[/name]. We also have a [name]Kevin[/name] and 2 [name]Evans[/name]. I’m starting to feel like [name]Evie[/name] is too close to those other names. It doesn’t sound as fresh as it used to. [name]Will[/name] it sound very dated and tied to 2010 in a few years? I wanted a timeless name and I am starting to think [name]Evie[/name] may not be the right choice. Thoughts . . .
It’s [name]WAY[/name] too cutesy as a full name. Why not [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Eve[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Ginevra[/name], or [name]Evelina[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]? That way it’s more distinctive, and she’ll have a professional option later on in life.
I picture a 30 something introducing herself at a bar to someone and doing the whole
“[name]Hi[/name]! I’m [name]Evie[/name]!”
And a few weeks later their new friend goes “so what’s your whole name?”
Thank you for those thoughts. But they don’t really answer my question. Is [name]Evie[/name] too close to all those uber popular names and will it sound very dated in a few years?
I have plenty of 30 year old friends named [name]Jenny[/name], [name]Katie[/name], [name]Abby[/name] etc. and have never questioned the appropriateness of their names. She can always go by [name]Eve[/name] if she feels the need to.
I love [name]Evie[/name]. I actually think that so many of the names right now end with an “a” that maybe [name]Evie[/name] gives a little fresh twist to the popular “Ev-” beginning.
I love [name]Evie[/name]! But I do think it’s becoming very tied to the noughties. I can’t see it ever being dated, really, as it has a classic beauty… but I would be inclined to go with a more classic longer name just in case. I’m a sucker for [name]Evangeline[/name] (or even Evanjelin, which I found in a book the other day), but [name]Evelyn[/name] is classically beautiful and ages well.
I really think it is to cutesy as a fn. It will likely get lost in the seas of Avas and Evas. I would suggest something for distinctive like [name]Genevieve[/name] “[name]Evie[/name].”
Other names you might like:

[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Della[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Nola[/name]
[name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]- Most distinctive imo
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
Not only is it super close to those names, but [name]Evie[/name] is also getting really popular!
I don’t think that [name]Evie[/name] will be considered dated, but it does sound sort of like those other names you mentioned…
[name]Evie[/name] is certainly gaining popularity… In the US, [name]Evie[/name] went from #849 in 2008 to #722 in 2009, and that’s not including all the Evas, Evelyns, etc. who go by [name]Evie[/name]…
I do agree with the other posters, though, another name that shortens to [name]Evie[/name] could be more unique, timeless, and suitable for an adult…
What other names do you like?
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice.
Our second choice is [name]Annika[/name]. We’ll keep thinking. . .
i think [name]Evie[/name] is better than [name]Annika[/name], although [name]Annika[/name] sounds like a full name…as other posters suggested, maybe you should consider names like [name]Evangeline[/name]…which is beautiful!
[name]Annika[/name] is lovely! Maybe you could use [name]Evie[/name] as a middle name? [name]Annika[/name] [name]Evie[/name]?
LOL!!!
I don’t think it’ll be tied to this year but I think it’s too cutesy. Also, with multiple [name]Kevin[/name]'s, [name]Evan[/name]'s, [name]Ava[/name]'s and [name]Evelyn[/name]'s, I’d avoid it.
I think she’ll need a fuller name. [name]Eve[/name] is okay and provides the nickname [name]Evie[/name]. Why not just save her the trouble and go with [name]Eve[/name], if that’s the name you love?
I say go with [name]Annika[/name]! Great name.
[name]Evie[/name] does sound like it would be a headache with all the other names in your neighborhood. For me it would be too close. But [name]Annika[/name] is so cute. You might also like [name]Anouk[/name]. [name]Happy[/name] naming.
We’ve decided to stay with [name]Evie[/name]. We love it and it has a different feel from those trendier neighbors ([name]Eva[/name], [name]Ava[/name], [name]Olivia[/name] etc.). I don’t have any problem imagining a 20, 40, 60 . . . year old as [name]Evie[/name]. I think it is timeless.
