Thoughts on Freddie

We have a son called [name_m]Otis[/name_m] and are looking at names for baby number 2! [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] came to mind and we both really love it with [name_m]Otis[/name_m] but wondering if it’s too popular?

I really quite like [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], on its own or as a nn for [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. I really don’t think it’s too popular.

[name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is not a name that appeals to me personally but nickname-names aren’t my style in general.

Regarding its popularity, where do you live? [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is a top 20 name in [name_f]England[/name_f] for example but not popular at all in the States.

Are you in the UK or US or elsewhere? In the US, [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is #514 and [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] isn’t ranked, so I’d say it’s not too popular. In the UK, it is definitely much more popular, but I would still use it if I loved it.

I know a little [name_u]Freddy[/name_u], short for [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], and think it’s rather cute. I’m of the give-them-the-full-name camp when it comes to these types of names though, so I’d recommend putting [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] on the birth certificate so he can seem official on job and college applications.

I love it! I like giving full names on the birth certificate but it’s not necessary.

Thanks for the feeedback. I’m n Australia and many kids are given just a nickname like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] or [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]

I love it. I think that [name_m]Otis[/name_m] & [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] are adorable together.

I think [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is an adorable name. [name_m]Otis[/name_m] & [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] are a super cute set of brothers!

I like it (though prefer the [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] spelling) and think it’s good with [name_m]Otis[/name_m].

[name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is adorable! I’m of the school of thought of giving a more formal name and using a nickname, so I would go with [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and call him [name_u]Freddie[/name_u].

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

I think nn work wonderfully as full names…I’m of the belief that you should name your child what you love, but that’s just a matter of opinion. I’ve never met a [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] (or [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], for that matter), but I also live in the US where it isn’t nearly as popular as it is in the UK. I wouldn’t be too overly concerned with popularity though. For instance, [name_u]Noah[/name_u] has been the #1 name for boys the last four years, but I’ve only met 1.

I think [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is adorable and I don’t think popularity is a concern. Its familiar but not overtly popular
