[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! [name_f]My[/name_f] grandfather was [name_u]French[/name_u] and had the first name Garnier (pronounced “garn-yay” like the shampoo company and everyone called him Granny). I cannot find this name on Nameberry, and I thought it was a name I could find on here! Does anyone have any idea what this name could mean?
NMSAA. “[name_u]Gardener[/name_u].”
Prefer [name_m]Greg[/name_m] for the meaning.
I can’t seem to find much about it. I think it would make an interesting middle
I like Garnier although it may be better in the middle spot because of pronunciation, depending on where you live. I know a young man whose name is Gardner and if it has the same meaning as Garnier, that may be another option for you as I always felt it was so handsome.
A quick google search surfaced the following:
Garnier is a surname commonly found in [name_f]France[/name_f] and [name_m]Quebec[/name_m], originally from the first name Garnier of Germanic etymology Warin-hari, like [name_m]Werner[/name_m]. Garnier de Nablus was a master of the Knights Hospitalier, commander under [name_m]Richard[/name_m] I in the Third Crusade. … The name can also be found in the Netherlands.
Local and dialectal [name_u]French[/name_u] variations include Gasnier , Grenier , Guernier , Varnier , Vernier , Warnier , Warniez , Wargniez , Wargnier and Warnéry .
Garnier (surname) - Wikipedia.
Maybe he was given a LN-as-a-FN, a common tradition for centuries. Like [name_u]Archer[/name_u], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_u]Jackson[/name_u], etc.
For a FN, I like Garner, Garber, or Warner better than Garnier, personally.
I like it! It’s very handsome
To be honest I think of Shampoo, sorry! I’d consider using a variant
It’s a lovely sounding name and I like the family connection, but the cosmetics association is pretty strong. I like the suggestions of [name_m]Garner[/name_m] or [name_u]Gardner[/name_u] to put a bit of a spin on it. [name_m]Rainier[/name_m] and [name_m]Olivier[/name_m] also have a similar kind of vibe to me.
Haha, I know! [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I tell someone my grandpa’s name, they ask if he started that company.
