Thoughts on Geneva

WDYT about the name [name]Geneva[/name]? I loved it the first time I heard it, but now I’m not so sure. What do you think?

I think it’s nice but it makes me think of the [name]Geneva[/name] Convention which isn’t a bad thing, it just makes it hard for me to imagine as a name. It’s definitely usable but I think [name]Genevra[/name] would be a nice alternative.

Sorry, but I don’t really like it. It sounds like genetalia to me…

cough I guess I’m biased, since it’s my middle name and the name of my great grandmother but… I really like it. It sounds vintage and old, but in a good way, and I could see it on a little girl. I don’t really like old timey girl’s names that much, but [name]Geneva[/name] is an exception for me.

It was my great grandmother’s name as well.
I like the name and think it is cute. My DH likes [name]Ginevra[/name] more. I know a lot of people will associate it with the [name]Geneva[/name] Convention though.

I absolutely love it. It would be at the absolute top of my list if I didn’t have a bad connection with [name]Jen[/name]/[name]Gen[/name]. I think it’s stunning.

It’s been growing on me a lot. Quite a lovely name!

I grew up with a [name]Geneva[/name]. She still is the only one I know with this name, but it’s not so uncommon that people don’t know how to pronounce it. I say it’s a vintage little gem!

I like this name a lot! I’m thinking about adding it to my name list as well. I think it’s very pretty and a nice alternative to [name]Genevieve[/name]. Only three syllables an I feel you can easily avoid the nn [name]Gen[/name]. [name]Neve[/name], Nevie, and [name]Neva[/name] would be my nn’s
Of choice. I do think of the convention but most names have a connection. And this one isn’t bad. Once you see her, you won’t be thinking of the convention! Hehe. It’s uncommon and vintage/has history. Go for it!

I’m biased as my daughter is [name]Geneva[/name]. I chose it because it has a vintage name feel yet is a bit more unique. Yes we get asked “like the convention?” more commonly “as in switzerland?”.

I just say she is named so because it’s a french name stemming from [name]Genevieve[/name]. It has quite a history behind it. Wikipedia says it of germanic decent (first time I’ve come across this in my research) I have also found some reference to it being of Dutch decent. It means “juniper tree”. It was quite common for a period in the american south.

We call our [name]Geneva[/name], “neva”, I want to avoid “[name]Gen[/name]” at all costs. You could always spell it like one of the alternatives…[name]Jeneva[/name] etc.
For the most part people say “how unusual” or “how pretty”. I have no regrets using this name!

I like the sound of [name]Geneva[/name], just as I like [name]Vienna[/name] and [name]India[/name]… but I just couldn’t give a name to my child which has such a strong association with something else (well there is that, and I live in [name]Geneva[/name], Switzerland!)

The Dutch national drink is ‘Jenever’ (which literally means juniper and in old Dutch was ‘[name]Genever[/name]’ with a French sounding ‘G’), which is a juniper flavored gin. It is also sometimes called ‘[name]Holland[/name] gin’ or ‘[name]Geneva[/name] gin’, so there is a link between [name]Geneva[/name] and Jenever, but I believe it is just that they both originate from the French [name]Geni[/name]èvre. So, I believe its origin comes from the French word for juniper. Correct me if I am wrong!

I love it actually, I find it familiar but exotic. It’s very classy seeming, and seems like the name of a successful woman.
I might add it to my list.

[name]Geneva[/name] is my grandmother’s name, which actually makes me feel mixed emotions. On the one hand, it’s the name of my very loving and sweet grandmother. On the other, I’m not fond of the sound. If I was honoring her I would most likely use [name]Genevieve[/name] or [name]Juniper[/name].

I love it! I think it’s a very cute, vintage sounding name. There is a [name]Geneva[/name] in the [name]Sunday[/name] School class I teach, and she is an absolute sweetheart - that was the first time I had heard the name, and now I love it! If you are feeling doubts about [name]Geneva[/name], I agree that [name]Genevieve[/name] is another beautiful variation, and so is [name]Ginevra[/name] (I prefer it spelled this way).

It’s gorgeous. I knew a girl named that and I thought it was a very pretty and uncommon but not weird name.

I think it’s lovely!

I love the name [name]Geneva[/name]! I think it’s gorgeous. My earliest association of the name was as a girl’s name, so – first and foremost – I think of it as a personal name.

I think it’s lovely, it always makes me think of guavas (not a bad thing)
