We had thought we were pretty much decided on naming our little man [name]Henry[/name] [name]Paul[/name]. However, my husband is still concerned over the popularity of [name]Henry[/name]. So, assuming [name]Henry[/name] is off the table, our short list would be:
I just can’t get on board with [name]Miles[/name]. The baby just doesn’t feel like a [name]Miles[/name].
The more I say [name]Geoffrey[/name], the more I like it. I also really, really like [name]Stuart[/name], but DH is neutral on both of those names. Our daughter is [name]Eleanor[/name], and I would like a name with some historical significance, although that’s not important to DH.
I think [name]Henry[/name] probably fits best, [name]Miles[/name] is cool (but go with your instinct), don’t like [name]Stuart[/name] or [name]Paul[/name] at all. Very fond of [name]Jeffrey[/name], but the G spelling feels awkward and much less cute/warm. Sorry not more positive, but [name]Eleanor[/name] (with alternate spellings) is well at the top of my girls’ list!
Thanks, everyone. I forgot to mention that [name]Paul[/name] as a middle name is a family tradition for the 1st born boy, so we’re stuck with it. I’ve just got to get DH off this ‘[name]Miles[/name]’ kick that he’s on.
With your daughter [name]Eleanor[/name], I like [name]Henry[/name] best. And honestly, even without [name]Eleanor[/name] as a sibling, I’d still pick [name]Henry[/name]. He just has a certain tone (or charm, perhaps?) to him that the others just can’t quite grasp - if that makes any sense?
I like [name]Henry[/name] the best–[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] are perfect!–but [name]Miles[/name] would come in second for me. I know a [name]Geoffrey[/name] who has ruined the name for me, and while [name]Stuart[/name] is lovely, I just find [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Miles[/name] more appealing with [name]Eleanor[/name]. Either way, I don’t think you could really go wrong!
I am a big fan of [name]Geoffrey[/name]!! I love it and have considered it myself! However, as a first name, it will be misspelled a lot. For that reason, you may want to go with [name]Jeffrey[/name]. [name]Geoffrey[/name] (or [name]Jeffrey[/name]) [name]Paul[/name] go great together.
If I were using it, I would definitely keep the [name]Geoffrey[/name] spelling. [name]Jeffrey[/name] has no charm at all, no historical weight, doesn’t gain anything [name]IMO[/name].
Someone has recently been trying to hard-sell me on [name]George[/name], I originally laughed, but they made quite the case for it being [name]Henry[/name] minus the super-popularity - accessible, historic, not hard to say or spell, masculine.
I also secretly like [name]Gareth[/name], but nobody else does.
I know a [name]Geoffrey[/name], a grown up one, and I have had thoughts of, “who named a baby [name]Geoffrey[/name]???” always found it weird, works well on a grown up but I guess that is what he will be for most of his life
I’ve always liked [name]Geoffrey[/name] - much prefer this spelling to [name]Jeffrey[/name]. On an adult, it’s handsome and distinguished - for a little boy, you could use the nickname [name]Geo[/name] instead of [name]Geoff[/name] for something a little more fun.
I’d stick with [name]Henry[/name]! It’s not in the top 10 baby names, so why is it overly popular? I love the name [name]Henry[/name].
Not a fan of [name]Paul[/name], but [name]Miles[/name] [name]Paul[/name] definitely doesn’t flow right, so I see why you nixed [name]Miles[/name]. [name]Geoffrey[/name] seems very dated to me, like a 1970’s name (even in the [name]Jeffrey[/name] spelling). Also makes me think of the Toys R Us giraffe :).
[name]Stuart[/name] isn’t really growing on me either, sorry.
But love the name [name]Eleanor[/name] that you chose for your daughter, lovely name.
