Thoughts on girl's name

So, after doing some research I find that I am drawn to the surnames/unisex names for girls. I love the classic names- but I don’t want to use something that is over used. I love the name [name]Grace[/name]…nn [name]Gracie[/name] or [name]Gray[/name]…but that is so popular right now. And for some reason I am just not sure about it. But my favorite name of all time is [name]Collins[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]How[/name] do you feel about that? [name]Do[/name] you think having a “S” on the end will sound weird when you are trying to say “[name]Collins[/name]’ Bookbag” or something similar? But I really do love the name. It was on the blindside and I feel in love with it the first time I heard it. [name]Do[/name] you know of anyone with that name?
Thanks so much for any input!

I like it a lot! I don’t think it will be an issue with the plural/possessive thing. It’s not for [name]James[/name] or [name]Charles[/name]. Beautiful name, I say go for it.

Gosh you make the BEST point! I never thought about those names…thank you!!!

I don’t really like it so much, but that’s only because the surname you chose sounds very boyish to me. However, there’s the movie The Blind Side, the daughter on there, her name is [name]Collins[/name].

I’m not really against surname or unisex names, but there are other surname and unisex names that sound a bit more girlish, like [name]Bellamy[/name]. That’s a surname/ supposed unisex name but it’s more girly to me, if you know what I’m saying.

And I don’t think it’s a problem with making the work plural. Like the other poster said, [name]James[/name], [name]Charles[/name] and others are fine.

I just watched the blind side yesterday and I was thinking about how cool the name [name]Collins[/name] is. I love [name]Elizabeth[/name] with it, I think you should go for it.

My favorite of this sort of name are [name]Ellery[/name] and [name]Ellis[/name].

[name]Ellery[/name] is really pretty. Our last name ends in a “y”- so I was thinking it wouldn’t sound right. [name]Ellis[/name] is my mom’s name…we thought about that name and then having a nn of [name]Ella[/name] or [name]Elle[/name].

I think [name]Ellis[/name] would be really nice, and much better than collins. At least it can be made feminine with the nicknames [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Ella[/name] etc

I know a few girls and boys with the name [name]Ellis[/name], so it definitely could work.

I love it!! I thought that [name]Collins[/name] was a really cute name in the blindside. I think that there are other names that would flow better with it as a middle name though

I love the name [name]Collins[/name] and I feel that [name]Elizabeth[/name] balances it out perfectly. Gorgeous! I don’t know anyone personally named [name]Collins[/name] but I do know a girl name [name]Collin[/name] who is in her upper 20’s. She likes her name and always has. Very unique!

Automatically makes me think of The Blind Side. :stuck_out_tongue: not that that is a bad thing.

The Blindside is one of my favourite movies, so I love [name]Collins[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]! I think it sounds cute and very fashionable (but not in an overly trendy way).

I think [name]Collins[/name] on a girl is very cute! (And I am not one to like uni-sex names!) Maybe it is because of the movie, but I do picture it on a girl, and it seems like a very southern name on a girl (since in the South they tend to name a lot of females based on surnames!) I say go for it!

This is great! And yes, I am from [name]Charleston[/name], SC- where surnames are pretty popular

Thanks again ladies…love all the feedback…positive and negative

I love [name]Collins[/name], actually! While I’m not a fan of unisex names personally, I first came across it when I met a family who had a [name]Collins[/name] [name]Anna[/name]. She was named after a teacher who had changed the lives of [name]Collins[/name]'s parents for the better in elementary school, I believe, so it was a very sentimental choice for them. I think [name]Collins[/name] just has a really cool sound in general. I think it’s hard to pair up, though–[name]Collins[/name] has a little brother, [name]Cooper[/name], and a little sister, [name]Cameron[/name], and they were talking about [name]Chandler[/name] if they had a third daughter. I think they go okay, but I think [name]Collins[/name] has a very different vibe from most unisex names, so to find something of that caliber–equal bits of rockstar, tomboy, and maybe just a bit princess–would be really hard, imo. I think with such a surnamey choice, you’d have to go with something equally surnamey (and maybe a bit masculine) with [name]Collins[/name]. Still, I like it, inexplicably. It just sounds so cool to me.
