Thoughts on Greer?

My husband recently found and fell in love with this name and I really like it too.

This would be for our only girl who would be joining brothers [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m] and [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. Her middle name will be [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and we have a long double barrelled name.

What do people think of [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]?

I like it! A lot. [name_f]Greer[/name_f] is so fun.

[name_f]Greer[/name_f] is all boy to me. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if I didn’t know a male [name_f]Greer[/name_f], it is incredibly masculine sounding to my ear. [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], and [name_m]Milo[/name_m] are very gentle boy names and [name_f]Greer[/name_f] could easily be a brother to them. I would go with something softer and more feminine.

[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Greer[/name_f] fits well with your other children’s names, and I like that you’ve paired the short, more unisex first name with a longer, classically feminine one. Go for it!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]! I really like this name and agree that it sounds good with longer, more feminine sounding middles. Go for it!

I can’t get on board with it. The sound of it makes me cringe, it just isn’t appealing to me on any scale. [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] softens [name_f]Greer[/name_f] out so I do like the combo, but I don’t think [name_f]Greer[/name_f] fits in well with [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m]. The latter three are soft, gentle boy names, whereas [name_f]Greer[/name_f] comes across as harsh.

Saying all of the above, your husband loves the name and you like it too, so I don’t think what I said matters. [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is balanced so while I may not like it or believe it goes, you both like/love it and sibsets don’t have to match anyway.

I think [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Greer[/name_f] would sound much better with your other children’s names. I’m not a fan of the name [name_f]Greer[/name_f] itself to be honest, but even if I was I would suggest it in the middle spot. With three older brothers, I think a more definitively long, feminine name like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] sounds wonderful with them. [name_f]Greer[/name_f] doesn’t feel as distinctive as a first name in my opinion.

I love [name_f]Greer[/name_f]! And I think [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is delightful.

I truly, truly dislike it. It’s so harsh and very awkward to say. I like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f].

I really hate [name_f]Greer[/name_f]. [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is nice, but [name_f]Greer[/name_f] is on the shortlist of names I dislike so much I cannot recommend it.

This name really seems to polarise people!

I love [name_f]Greer[/name_f]! It’s one of my all time favourite names, and lucky you having a long surname that it would sound good with. (Unfortunately it wouldn’t work with my surname, or it would have been on my shortlists too.)

I also love [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], and I think [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is a beautiful combo. I also really like [name_f]Greer[/name_f] with your other children’s names. Interesting that some pps see it as a boy’s name, whereas it’s all girl to me, and I’ve only ever seen it used for girls.

Actress [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_m]Garson[/name_m] is a great example of a beautiful [name_f]Greer[/name_f]. Time to re-watch Mrs Minniver!

I really like it! I especially like the more unusual, succinct [name_f]Greer[/name_f] with the traditional and more feminine [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. As a sibset it works wonderfully too.

I’m sort of shocked there’s so much hate for [name_f]Greer[/name_f] on this site?! Especially with the love for other unisex names like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Marlow[/name_u], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], etc.

I absolutely adore [name_f]Greer[/name_f]–she’s so spunky and cool. I have a strict no-unisex policy (I have one and rather hate that aspect of my name), but if I didn’t, [name_f]Greer[/name_f] would probably be somewhere on my top 10 at this point, or at least my top 20! I can see someone’s point that [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], and [name_f]Greer[/name_f] COULD be brothers, but I can’t wrap my mind around [name_f]Greer[/name_f] on a boy, and it certainly doesn’t sound ugly to me. :stuck_out_tongue: [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is gorgeous! Another [name_u]Berry[/name_u] had a daughter a bit back who she named [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Grier[/name_f], which I am so in love with. (And another who named her daughter [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Grier[/name_f], which I also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]!) I can easily see her being the little sister of [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], and [name_m]Milo[/name_m]!

If you love it best, I say use it, by all means. I also love the idea of [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Greer[/name_f]/[name_f]Grier[/name_f], too, and think [name_f]Greer[/name_f]/[name_f]Grier[/name_f] would make an awesome middle if [name_f]Greer[/name_f] has sort of been ruined for you (which I hope it’s not!). I admit to preferring the [name_f]Grier[/name_f] spelling (I think!), but [name_f]Greer[/name_f] is certainly more straight-forward as far as pronunciation is concerned. I also love the simple [name_f]Greer[/name_f] with a long, double-barreled surname.

Good luck!

I’ve never actually heard [name_f]Greer[/name_f] before, I can’t quite decide if I like it but I definitely don’t dislike it. The meaning is cool and I do see a headstrong, fiery and determined young woman when I think of the name which she probably will be with 3 older brothers!

[name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is amazing! I don’t think you could pick a better middle.

I. [name_u]Love[/name_u]. [name_f]Greer[/name_f].

It totally fits my style for names ([name_u]Sloane[/name_u] is my fave!) - spunky, slightly edgy and cool, yet it evokes a sense of elegance and class. And, I think [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is a great combo! I tend to have trouble finding perfect middles for names like [name_f]Greer[/name_f] and [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], but I lean towards longer, more traditional middle names. I love the contrast between short and spunky [name_f]Greer[/name_f] and long and feminine [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f].

I could gush about this all day long! I say go for [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]!

I love [name_f]Greer[/name_f]! It’s a strong, unique name that sounds beautiful paired with [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. I agree with other posters - a short name like [name_f]Greer[/name_f] sounds better with a longer name like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. [name_f]Greer[/name_f] definitely fits in with [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], and [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. I’d go for it!

I’m torn on [name_f]Greer[/name_f]. On one hand, I love that it’s short and strong. It’s definitely a name that demands attention! I don’t see it as a boys name so it’s all girl to me. On the other hand, I do agree that it’s harsh. I can’t help but feel the name is caught somewhere between “growl” and “sneer.”

Personally, I think I prefer [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. But as another poster said, if it’s a name that both you and your husband love, that’s what matters and it’s far from unusable. I can definitely see this name growing on me and bringing me permanently over to the love side.

[name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is stunning as a combo! I think [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is the perfect middle for [name_f]Greer[/name_f] as it is also a strong sounding name but very feminine as well.
