I’ve been super crushing on [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] lately…
As much as I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], I equally dislike [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] as a nickname. I really like [name_f]Della[/name_f] as a nn, but do you think it’s inevitable a [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] would naturally be called [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]? What are some middle names you like with [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]? What do you think of this name overall (you can be honest I’m not planning to use it anytime soon!)
So people would most likely call a [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] “Gwen” unless it’s someone she knows well.
Lyn(n) would be my first thought on an alternative. Another option, and quite a stretchy one, is [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], though it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea.
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] isn’t a bad name. I can see it on a little girl with curly blonde hair in pigtails wearing a yellow dress (to me, the name is very yellow or gold). Della’s a cute nickname.
I’m really bad with middle names. [name_f]My[/name_f] top ones are [name_u]Rose[/name_u] and Jade/Jane. [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] “Della” [name_u]Jade[/name_u] is pretty. [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] “Della” [name_u]Rose[/name_u] is especially sweet.
I’m not sure why you would like [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] but not [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]? I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] in part because I love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] would most likely be the nickname. [name_f]Della[/name_f] is lovely but it’s a bit stretchy. It certainly isn’t intuitive. Personally, I wouldn’t use a name if I didn’t like the most common nickname for it. But that’s for you to decide. [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] sounds good with a lot of names, but I would be inclined to use a middle with one or two syllables.
I know it seems so silly to like [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] but not [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]!
I guess it’s the same idea of liking [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] but not [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but not [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_u]Timothy[/name_u] but not [name_m]Tim[/name_m], ect. To me [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is very feminine but spunky. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] on its own sounds frumpy to me. I think it’s part of the reason I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] but not so much [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f].
I do think [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] might come naturally to people who automatically nickname, and it would be hard to avoid it entirely.
Still, if she had another established nickname, she might correct people naturally?
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is one I like some day and feel neutral to on others - I would still be pleased to meet or hear of a little [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] though. It’s clunky-cool, kind of elegant, a little literary, and fun too.
I’ve just come from your topic on middles for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] so I wanted to quickly suggest [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] when I saw this! No shortening to [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] in that case
I think most would assume [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] as the nickname as I feel this is the most intuitive. Of course if someone knows your child and knows she goes by [name_f]Della[/name_f] it could stick but I think you’d need to be forceful with that nickname. Personally I do not see how you got [name_f]Della[/name_f] from [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. A nickname I think could definitely stick and be intuitive would be [name_f]Wendy[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] is whimsical and sweet.
You’ve had lots of lovely middle name suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
I think [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] would be difficult to avoid for [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. Maybe you would like [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] as it has a softer sound and the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is sweet.
