Thoughts on Hattie Jane?

My SO and I had our first date (and many wonderful subsequent dates) at a local ice cream shop called [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s. The shop means a lot to use, as it reminds us of the excitement we feel to be together and the comfort we find in one another. The fact that it has a pretty cute name is just a bonus.

We have recently started throwing around the idea of naming our firstborn daughter [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] after the shop. I feel it is a sweet, timeless name, but I wanted to solicit some opinions.

Her name would just be [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], not [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], as I am not a fan of [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and do not mind using nicknames as given names. We would likely call her [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] about half the time and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] the other half.

What do you think?

I love it! The name itself is very cute, but the connection you and your SO share with the ice cream shop makes it even better! I say go for it!

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] for you - the meaning behind it is fantastic and it’s adorable.

The name is adorable, and the story is so cute too! I think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is lovely, and it sounds wonderful with the classic [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

I love how special [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is to you. What a wonderful story to be able to tell a daughter. Personally, I find the name beautiful and charming. I would also call a [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

YES! I love the name and think the significance makes it even better!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] names with meaning, so of course I adore this combo. [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is cute vintage and I’m not going to lie, but I prefer “[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]” as a double given name than as first/middle. Anyway, GREAT choice!
PS: [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] can be a nickname for [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f].

[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is cute. I love the meaning behind it.

[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is so cute!

[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] manages to be unique, timeless, and classic all at the same time. I think it is adorable and the meaning behind it makes the name all the more special.

[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is just darling! And I love the meaning behind it. It would be so sweet to name your first daughter that and have such a story to tell her one day about her name  I love it.

So cute on its own and a lovely story behind it to boot.

i disagree with everyone. per usual.

it IS super cute and an even cuter story…but I wouldnt want to say ‘my parents named me after an ice cream parlor’ or any other business, even though you had your first date there.

its one thing to have a meaningful name, its another for that name be so much of that parents story that you are eternally stuck in their story and dont get to start off on your own with a name less reminiscent of all that is THEM. the kid is already half of both of you. this namesake feels like it could be in the category ‘too much to live up to’ / ‘too literal’ / ‘stuck in the past’.

(i also dislike naming a kid after their parents for similar reasons, skip at least one generation for namesakes)

quadruple the hesitation if you still live in the town this shop is in/was or you will visit for holidays each year etc.

the first inspiration i think of is [name_f]Dulce[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] choice! And [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a perfectly normal name. It’s not like the ice-cream parlor name was something random and weird.

I much rather have a name with meaning and a story behind it than just a name. It would not bother me to be named after a place of business as long as there was a reason and the business had a name that would work for a person (like [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]). It’s not like they are planning on naming their child Dairy [name_f]Queen[/name_f], Big Dipper, Cone Island, etc.

I could easily name a son [name_u]River[/name_u], part of the name of the city I grew-up in. I would have no issue visiting the area. Their are most likely other people with the name [name_u]River[/name_u] near by or in the city. I am sure their are people named [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], [name_m]Austin[/name_m], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], etc near or in those locations.

I feel strongly that all people need to be treated as individuals. I do not consider naming a child after an important place taking away their individuality.

I do not feel the Name is too much to live up to. Live up to what? The name would be given because it is special, like all honor names. I do not think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is too literal. Naming her Ice Cream Shop would be. Only their close family and friends, and people they choose to tell the story to, will know what [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] means. Stuck in the past. I want to honor loved ones that have passed, so I too would be stuck in the past, I guess. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t get it.

[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is precious!

Very sweet. You could break it up/add in another name, e.g. [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], or use a different similar name, e.g. [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u], to make it based off but not identical to the ice cream parlor… but it works either way. [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is cute as a button.

My initial thought upon reading the title was the famous restaurant in Nashville, [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] B’s, where they serve hot chicken.

However after reading the connection you and your husband have to the name I love it!
