Curious as to Nameberry opinions regarding [name_u]Holland[/name_u] as a girl’s name, all/any feedback welcome
I’ve heard it a few times before, and most recently one of the actresses from Teen [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] ([name_u]Holland[/name_u] Roden) and I’m becoming more and more infatuated with it, especially the combo [name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. To me, the combo feels sophisticated and academic yet sweet and soft.
I used to not like it but now seeing it again I like it a lot. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like you I heard it on Teen [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] and the name fits the actor perfectly. [name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sounds gorgeous by the way. The nn [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is very cute and ages well.
To me it just sounds odd. This may be a cultural thing - where I live, people don’t typically get named after countries or regions, apart from a few established names like [name_f]India[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f].
It doesn’t appeal to me at all, to me it’s just a country, a lovely one, but just a country.
However, I’m in Europe, close to [name_u]Holland[/name_u], so to me it sounds as odd as a kid named [name_f]Canada[/name_f] or Mexico would sound to an US American.
I’ve never been a fan of [name_u]Holland[/name_u] but I do love the name [name_f]Holly[/name_f]. I went to school with a girl named Hollyn. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it’s probably made up, it feels more like a name to me.
I actually quite like it. It’s been growing on me more and more. I love the nickname [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and I think [name_u]Holland[/name_u] is a fun and interesting way to get there, but isn’t so extreme that you’d have to only use the nickname. I also really like [name_f]Holiday[/name_f].
[name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a great name.
I think [name_u]Holland[/name_u] is a stunning name. It can also have the fun nn of [name_f]Holly[/name_f].
Both give me pretty pictures.
[name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is nice, but I feel like there could be something better. To me, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] seems to be used when nothing else makes sense. An easy way out.
I’m neutral on [name_u]Holland[/name_u]. I don’t love it, but I think it could work. I think with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], it’s a little too wordy.
I would go with something like [name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], or [name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f].
It sounds silly in my opinion, although I do see the appeal. [name_u]Holland[/name_u] is nothing more than a country to me, because I - like @opheliaflora - live close to [name_u]Holland[/name_u] so it seems to me like it would for Americans to see a person named [name_f]Canada[/name_f] or Mexico - silly. [name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] does SOUND lovely though but I can’t get past it being a country.
I like it a lot! I also like [name_u]Hollis[/name_u]. Beautiful name choice. It’s feminine but masculine at the same time. And I like that contrast in one name.
