Thoughts on hyphenated first name?

I really love hyphenated first names, and wanted thoughts on a combo of my maternal & paternal grandmothers’ names?

My maternal Grandma’s name was [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f], and my paternal Grandma’s name was [name_f]Ann[/name_f].

Thoughts on [name_f]Jacquie[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f]? Thank you!!

I’m not a fan of hyphernated names, but that’s just my opinion. Jacquie-Ann is nice, but maybe Jacqueline as the full might be better. Jacqueline’s a nice name though, nicer to see than another Emma or Ella.

I quite like hyphenated names. I am considering one for myself. I am worried however on how difficult it might be to live with. Official forms etc and computers not recognising the hyphen.

Double names have always sounded weird to me, especially moving from the Midwest to the south, because I wasn’t used to them. I don’t register it as “one” name and want to just call them by the first one. I think [name_f]Jacquie[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] feels a little dated but the connection to your grandmas is so sweet and would be one that she would cherish. Hyphens don’t do much for me and, as PP said, it can be difficult to live with on official forms.

I love double names, some of my kids go by them. That said, I don’t do the hyphen. They just go by their first and middle names together.

I think they really stand out in a great way.

I don’t love hyphenated names, they’re okay. I think [name_f]Jacquie[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] sounds okay but personally I don’t like nicknames as full names very much and it seems a shame not to use [name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f] in its full glory. If it were me I’d go with [name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] as a first and middle name and use Jaquie-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] as a nickname.

I love holly6174’s suggestion to use [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] as a full name with [name_f]Jacquie[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] as the nn. You could even just introduce her to everyone as [name_f]Jacquie[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] and not have to specify that her official name is the full version - it just may make it easier to have an official un-hyphenated name.

I’ve always gone by a nickname of my official name and it doesn’t cause me any issues - I just know when I’m filling out forms to use my full name!

It’s a lovely way to honour your grandmas

Everyone I know with a hyphenated name just goes by the first one, so I don’t really see the point. I think it’d be better as a first and middle name e.g. [name_f]Jacquie[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f].
