Thoughts on if [name_m]Jack[/name_m] or [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] is an acceptable name since father isn’t a [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m]?
Acceptable for sure. There are so many -son named kids who aren’t the son of the prefix in their name

Jack is fine. [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] isn’t just because that’s a pet peeve of mine.
100% [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] is super popular right now, and I’d guess maybe 1/100 at most (probably way less) Jacksons born actually have a dad named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] or [name_m]John[/name_m], maybe less. It’s seen as just a name now (no one assumed [name_u]Madison[/name_u]’s are a son of [name_f]Maude[/name_f], Harrisons are a son of [name_u]Harry[/name_u], etc.

I think it’s perfectly fine! [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] is very popular, and I really don’t think anyone is going to dwell upon the literal meaning of the name.
I think it’s fine! I think the father’s name being a certain thing to warrant what a son’s name can be has fallen a little out of date.
Absolutely fine! Both are good, solid names. I especially like [name_m]Jack[/name_m].
Both names are usable for any boy.

I think it is definitely acceptable! [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] is a fairly common name and you don’t have to pass it down.
When people add -son or have a name that means “son of” when they aren’t the son of. I just don’t like it. It doesn’t make sense in my brain.
I used to feel the same way as you, especially if it was a girl’s name. However, I’ve come to appreciate them as surname names, such as [name_u]Monroe[/name_u], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], etc. and I can definitely appreciate them more now!

Completely fine and very normal. The majority of [name_m]Jack[/name_m]’s, [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]’s, and [name_m]Jason[/name_m]’s do not have a father named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] or [name_m]John[/name_m].
Acceptable for sure! Think [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_u]Allison[/name_u] and [name_u]Addison[/name_u], all -son names are acceptable even if your father isn’t named a certain way!
