Thoughts on Ilari

What do you think of [name]Ilari[/name] (Latin/Basque = cheerful)? Is it too similar to [name]Hilary[/name] to be usable for a boy?

Depends on where you live. It’s also similar to [name]Ilia[/name], but I’d say if you live in [name]America[/name]/[name]Canada[/name]/UK that it’s probably too close to [name]Hilary[/name] unless there’s a large population of Basque people in the area.

It IS Hlary, just with a Basque inflection. [name]Hilary[/name] was originally an exclusively male name. If you want to reclaim it, I think you might try changing the ending. Italian [name]Ilario[/name], Estonian Illar, Finnish [name]Lari[/name], Welsh [name]Ilar[/name] and French [name]Hilaire[/name] seem more masculine nowadays.

I would assume feminine upon reading, fwiw
[name]Lovely[/name] name.
