I’ve really started to love the name Illyria (i-LI-ree-uh) and I think it should definitely be added to the Nameberry database. It seems very exotic and feminine to me, and it’s a Shakespearean place name but I worry that it might be too frilly for modern usage. I’m not concerned about pronounciation btw. Would it age well? Also I’d like to have a nn, I’ve considered [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] but is that too much of a stretch? Also can you think of any good middle combos, I like Illyria [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] but would love more suggestions! I want fairly simple names to balance Illyria’s frilliness but not necessarily one syllable.
Thanks in advance!
I adore Illyria! Though, I keep it on the GP list because I don’t think it would age well. Plus, it may be too out there (for me, at least). [name_u]Lyric[/name_u] would be a cool NN, Illey (eye-lee), Ri (ree), [name_f]Ria[/name_f]… [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] would definitely work!
I suck at middle names, but here was me best shot:
Illyria [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
Illyria [name_f]Neve[/name_f]
Illyria [name_f]Bea[/name_f]
Illyria [name_f]Anne[/name_f]
Illyria [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
Illyria [name_u]Eden[/name_u] (too place name-y?)
Illyria [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
Illyria [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
Illyria [name_f]Jade[/name_f]
@steampunkleo I love Illey as nickname (worried it may get mispronounced as Ily though… ) I disagree that you suck at middles, Illyria [name_f]Neve[/name_f] (Or maybe [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] spelling??) is stunning and I also love Illyria [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. I like [name_u]Eden[/name_u] but maybe it is too place-namey. Thank you!
I think Illyria is gorgeous name fitting for child, grown woman and grandma. I like nickname Lyria.

@sorceress Illyria [name_u]June[/name_u], Illyria [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], Illyria [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and Illyria [name_u]Skye[/name_u] are wonderful. I agree with you about staying away from L and R in the middle. Thank you so much!
Illyria is a beautiful name, with a dreamlike fairytale vibe and a great literary reference.
I like the idea of Illyria [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. What about:
Illyria [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
Illyria [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
Illyria [name_f]Plum[/name_f]
Illyria [name_f]Victoire[/name_f]
Illyria Zélie
Illyria [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
Illyria Nimue
Illyria Merewen
Illyria is actually in our top three for our baby girl, who’s due in about three weeks. I wish they’d add it to the Nameberry database, too!
I pronounce it i-LEER-ee-uh. I think it’s a lovely name with either pronunciation though.
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I just noticed this thread is from 2014.
I actually read a book last year where the main character’s name was Elyria, so you aren’t alone in liking this name! It does have a very fairytale/whimsical feel.
I think that Illyria is is beautiful. I don’t know how well it’d age though, so I’d recommend using a nn with it.
I think it’s pretty (tho I do prefer [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f])… and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] definitely works. I also think Illy (rhymes with [name_f]Millie[/name_f]) is an adorable nickname.
I like it, but I am a huge [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] fan (it’s my pick if this baby is a girl) so I find it appealing. I do think [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is a stretch for a nn but Lyria is nice.
